Baby poop and fussy baby - Halp, plz

FTM here, EBF my LO who is just 2 weeks old. She eats like a champ (about every 2-3 hours) but is being really fussy after she eats and will be fussy until she poops. Is this normal? Anything I can do to help her poo more easily besides bicycle legs? It's really unbearable watching her struggle so much, and listening to her bare down in pain when she's trying to go. Breaks my heart. TIA.

  • Try gas drops. Mylicon or generic both work really well. Our LO gets to be gassy like that and grunts and fusses, the drops work within minutes.

    This.
  • Mylicon drops are a godsend!

Also I wonder if your water intake increased would help?
  • Thanks all! Tried the gas drops and they didn't seem to do much. My husband had the same thought as @Baby'smom about drinking more water (turns out I really didn't drink much yesterday) so I chugged two huge glasses of water and baby conked out and woke up with a huge poo in her diaper  =D>

In other news - she slept for FIVE WHOLE HOURS last night. So basically it turned out to be the best night of my life :D
  • My LO gets really gassy too. I drink a lot of water and the gas drops don't seem to help much. He also grunts a lot when trying to poo. If I can get him to sleep for 2 -2.5 hours at a time I'm lucky.
  • Yay for sleep!! Sorry to hear the gas drops didn't work for you, that's a major bummer.
  • My pediatrician told my I could give my newborn 1 tsp of Karol syrup to 1 oz of water 2 times a day. And it worked really good also baby liked it! I highly recommend!!!
