2nd Trimester

For those not finding out the sex

DH and I have decided to be surprised on the sex of this last little one. With the other three we found out, and we have kept all boy and girls clothing and gear, and decided we will add something new to our last experience. (Not that a baby isn't new enough.) My question is do I have to tell every ultrasound tech that we are not finding out, or do they have it in my file? My office will give me two more scans: The AS and a growth scan at 32 weeks. This is their procedure. Just wondering if I need to be pretty vocal about it...

Re: For those not finding out the sex

  • Well I posted the below on your other thread before you deleted...

Definitely tell the tech at the AS and growth scans that you are not finding out the sex. That way they will tell you to look away when they are in the genital area.

For your other appointments, Some people have said that they remind their doctor/nurse/midwife at every appointment. At my office, they don't keep any of that in the documentation so whoever I'm seeing doesn't know (no chance of a slip-up). Consult your office to see how that information may be documented.

  • Sorry about deleting on you! Not sure why it double posted.
  • I plan to tell the tech at every appt that we don't want to know. I think, esp as you get further along, it would be easy for them to slip and say "oh, she looks great!" or "he is developing well".

I really, really don't want to know, so I think just reminding is a good idea.
  • Docs, midwives, techs, they're human and they can forget. I don't see the problem with being cautious and politely reminding them.

  • I would tell everyone involved! However, I'm in Canada and they have it in my file. So I have had no issues with this. But still a good idea to make sure everyone knows!

Mine asked before she even started the ultrasound. Then, when the nurse called back to give the results of my Harmony test, she asked even though I had marked on the consent form that I wanted it tested.

  • We were Team Green with #2. I wanted the surprise so badly that I was overly cautious and mentioned it at every appointment.

I knew we were done after two and really didn't want to find out by mistake.
  • I would tell everyone just to be sure no one slips and says he/she on accident.  I only have 1 scan per child (unless there is a problem) and the tech didn't even look at the genitals.
  • definitely remind them!
