TSH levels low? (thyroid)

Hi moms! This is my first time posting, I'm 10.5 weeks along. My Drs office just called me and said my initial blood work came back and my TSH levels were low with my thyroid and they want me to go see an endocrinologist. My levels are at 0.03. I'm not sure what any of this means because they didn't really go into detail with me, can someone shed some light on this? Thank you so much!

    Did they test your T3 and T4 levels as well?

    I'm not sure :( I got about 5 vials of blood drawn and there was a long list of things, I can't remember. They just said everything else looks normal except for my TSH levels

    It's possible your thyroid is over active. Depending on your T3 and T4 levels, they may put you on some sort of medication to balance out your thyroid levels.

    But you need more than just your tsh levels to diagnose thyroid disease.

    .03 definitely means it's over active, hyperthyroid. I'm hypothyroid. But I agree that they need to test t3 and t4 as well to see where more of the problems lies.

    I'm 12 weeks and just got my levels back and they are 4.6. I've never been on meds for thyroid before. Everything I've read says it's safe to stay on thyroid meds during pregnancy, but I haven't read anything about starting meds during pregnancy.

    Also, now I'm nervous because of what I'm reading about the chance of baby having a low IQ??? Since I'm 12 weeks already, I'm worried how much my higher levels could have already impacted the baby!

    Waiting to hear back from doc to see what she recommends.

    My thyroid levels are low as well. My doctor said it is common in the first trimester. She is going to re test me next month to make sure it's back up. There is no immediate danger to baby but if levels stay low then there is a chance of pregnancy conications in 3rd trimester. So as long as you figure it out by then you should be fine. Good luck!

    I haven't read about the IQ thing but i was put on a new thyroid medication about a week ago. It's definitely scary because the meds have a lot of side effects but the risk of the side effects doesn't out weigh the benefits. My perinatal specialist told me its safer to take the meds than to not. For both me and baby.

    This. I've always had hypothyroidism, now it's leaning toward hyper. Doc said don't worry, they'll just retest in a few weeks and keep an eye on it.

    @nmbutterworth I have hypothyroidism and was diagnosed like a month before I got pregnant with DD. I have been on synthroid since then and I think I was at 5.5 when diagnosed. I'm on the lowest dose to correct my levels (25 x 3 days, 50 x 4 days) and I'd ask for the same thing and only use the name brand even though the generic is cheaper.

    My doctor friend said that with hormones (like thyroid medicine) it's better to stay on name brand when getting it all sorted out/in pregnancy because generic only has to test to be at 90% as effective as the name brand.

    Here they want to follow it and test monthly. I've had zero side effects except when they first diagnosed it and started me at too high of a dose and I think I went toward hyperthyroid and got really shakey.

    Oh, also DD is totally normal, well most of her milestones she hit just before normal and her vocabulary is fantastic for a 2yr 9mo old. I've never heard the IQ thing.

    ETA actually, I think I have heard that the baby can have low IQ if you don't treat your thyroid issues during pregnancy.

    It's very normal for TSH to be low especially in the first trimester.  As long as T3 and T4 are normal it's ok.

    You ladies are awesome! I hope things look up for you who are having issues with your thyroid for certain, I had never heard of the IQ thing! I hope that's not true! We will see what the Dr says hopefully it's nothing
