Travelling whilst pregnant?

Just found out i am pregnant a week ago now..very excited! !! However, my fiance and i get married in two weeks and we have booked a honeymoon in thailand. Im really scared of travelling incase i get sick or suffer from food poisoning or anything like that. Has anybody else been in this position or is in this position ? Should we postpone? Thanks ladies

Re: Travelling whilst pregnant?

  • You should be fine, just be aware of what you're eating and drinking and make sure it's safe.

  • You should be fine. I know I'll be traveling all over the place during this pregnancy. Nature of my work. Bleh.

  • Thanks for the replies ladies. Im just so anxious and dont want to do anything that can risk it. I think we will still go just need to be careful with what i consume. Im scared most of the plane! Ha
  • Might be a good idea to talk to your doc and see if they have suggestions for nausea while you're gone. I'd also pack some granola bars or crackers that you can snack on if you need them! Have fun! Thailand is on my "must see" list!
  • I've already travelled once during my pregnancy and have several more trips planned before the end of the year. My midwife told me to consider compression socks for the plane to help minimize swelling and to stay hydrated.  Dealing with food in a new country is a different matter-- maybe bring graham crackers or something with you?  Good luck and have fun!
  • OMG that sounds amazing! Have a wonderful time.  We are traveling - but just in the states.
  • I also think you should be fine. Your doctor will most likely recommend when you shouldn't be flying anymore and to that point you are not too far along. I'm also flying on a trip to Europe. I will just make sure to watch what I eat. And in case I really need to consult a doctor, there are options as well. Safe travels!
  • I flew overseas to Germany at 32 weeks, you should be fine. Just make sure you get up and move occasionally, drink a lot of water and eat well

  • We'll travel to Thailand on november at 4 months pregnant. Just be careful with food!
  • I also went to Thailand on my honeymoon and I did get sick, BUT it was because I ignored the travel dr's orders. We were advised no salads, fruits that you don't peel yourself, ice, etc. And then after a week I got careless and had a smoothie and was very sick. Also I would recommend using bottled water to brush your teeth. And maybe stay away from street meat.
