MFI - Prune Belly Syndrome

Anyone here married to and TTC with a man with prune belly syndrome? Curious about your experiences. My husband has a mild form and had orchiopexy and 1 orchiectomy (so we are working with 1 testicle that may or may not make sperm). We know that we will be requiring fertility assistance, and he will be going to get SA done soon, although we won't start TTC until about January 2017. TIA~

Re: MFI - Prune Belly Syndrome

  • Anyone?

We haven't used any contraception for the last 6+ years, so we are positive that we will not get a BFP w/o ART. Best case scenario, IUI, most likely with ICSI.

  • I can't help with you exact situation, but there are meds they can give guys to help boost their counts.  So if he has one that is working, he might just need some supplements to help him out.  I think the SA is first.  However, they can vary drastically from 1 to another.  I'm not sure I would spend money on an SA (and potentially undue stress) now if you aren't looking to TTC for over a year?  I would say start investigating maybe 3-6 months before TTC.  It takes a man 3 months to produce sperm.  So any supplements started in fall of 2016, would help prepare you for Jan 2017.
