Chiropractor?!?

Hey ladies!

A doula friend of mine recommended I see a chiropractor for intense back pain I've been having! I have an appointment in the morning.
I'm 37w3d and wouldn't mind getting the show on the road and having my sweet boy!

Has anyone heard of an alignment inducing labor? Intentionally or unintentionally? This dr specializes in prenatal chiropractic care so here's hoping!

  • I've never heard of chiropractic being used to induce labor, nor has my chiropractor ever mentioned that being a use or concern. Its purpose is to help your body adjust to the changes it is going through during pregnancy, and I have heard women say that being in alignment can help you when you are in labor. But I wouldn't expect or attempt to induce labor unnecessarily at this point, through chiropractic or otherwise.
  • Thanks for the feedback! I mostly just can't wait to feel relief!! :)
  • Yep, same here as PP's. :)
  • I've been going since 15ish weeks and my chiro is my favorite person right now. I don't think an adjustment can induce labor though.

  • I've been going to the chiropractor since 10 weeks and I never heard of that. I have heard that going will help out when it comes time to have the baby.
  • I went for my entire pregnancy and while I had my baby 4 weeks early (it was over a week since I'd been to the chiropractor), I did have a quick labor and easy delivery - less than 10 hours from water breaking until baby! Hospital staff kept commenting that they couldn't believe it was my first baby!
  • A realignment doesn't trigger labor but it's supposed to help baby get into position. I would marry my chiropractor if I could... if it weren't for her I would be in so much pain and angry at the world lol
  • I've always seen a chiropractor even before pregnancy. Ours is a family friend and I trust him with my life! Usually I go as needed but plan on going weekly until I deliver so I'm ready and aligned for delivery!
  • I'm a chiropractor and the ladies who posted before me have it all right. Of course it can help with pain, but our main job is to help ensure your structure is sound so that your nervous system can function optimally. Bottom line is babies come when they are ready, though being in alignment will absolutely help speed things up.
  • I've been going to a chiropractor for years! I truly believe my lack of morning sickness and all around ease during this pregnancy was from my wonderful chiro. Towards the end here, I can't wait for Monday's to come and I get adjusted!
  • I'm planning to make weekly appointments during my last 4 weeks. It seems to help me a lot.
  • I have been going since about 8 weeks pregnant this time.
Last pregnancy I started going sometime in the middle of my pregnancy.
I have had so much pain for most of this pregnancy. I end up there twice a week sometimes, especially now at the end.
I totally think it makes for a faster labor / delivery.
Not for inducing anything though, even though I wish. 39 weeks this week.
I went five days late with my first.
  • I've been going to a specialized prenatal chiropractor/massage place. It's amazing and I highly recommend it! I think you'll love it!
  • I went a lot until 3rd tri then got lazy. But never heard of it causing preterm labor.
  • T-3 hours until my appointment! I can't wait to feel good!!!!!!!!! Ahhh!!!!! :D
And if it helps baby ease into position, then that makes it even more exciting!!
  • I've been having some dull, achy back pain over the last couple of weeks, and the past day or so it has gotten so much worse. Feels like a pinched nerve or pulled muscle in my lower back on my right side. Hard to walk and pretty severe pain into my butt. Seeing my OB this afternoon and plan to ask her about this, but glad to hear there is an option for relief by seeing a chiropractor!
