2nd Trimester

Cystic placenta

We just had our 19 week fetal ultrasound. Everything looks good but I was told I have a cystic placenta. The technician said it's not uncommon & 95% of women with it have a healthy baby. I'll go back for another ultrasound at 32 weeks to check on the baby's growth. If it is a problem the baby could have slow growth/low weight. Anyone else experienced this?

Re: Cystic placenta

  • I have never heard of that.  I have to go back at 28 weeks because my placenta is about 2 cm away from my cervix, so they want to see if within my 20w and 28w scan, there has been some distance created as the baby has continued to grow, so that I won't have to have a c-section. If it's that common, I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. Good luck with everything!

  • Wow never heard of that, but my first thought was, that there are so many more things to worry about the more we know! Just think, if you were pregnant before ultrasounds became common, you'd never know anything was unusual about the placenta and 95% chance nothing would happen as a result. Hoping all goes well for you but sometimes ignorance is bliss!
