Baby food making

Hi everyone, I'm thinking of making my own baby food as premade food is expensive in the grocery store and has all the extra additives. Does anyone have any recipes or good advice for it? Is a baby food blender/processor really worth the money or is it just as easy to use a steam basket and blender?

Re: Baby food making

  • I'm going to just super steam whatever we are eating. I feel like you see baby food blenders at yard sales a lot if that's any indication of necessity.

  • All you need is a blender. I made and blend soups.
  • We got a ninja so then it is multi purpose and not just for baby food. It is a great blender and cannot wait to start making our own baby food. (We bought for our older 2). As for recipes, I would google it!
  • Pinterest for recipes, there are so many! And I too have a ninja.
  • I've already started making and freezing baby food. Just start with the basic purées. I done squash, pumpkin, beets, and carrots so far. I can always mix them with something else later as I thaw them.
  • I live my baby brezza. It makes it so easy. You just dice whatever you are making, add water to the container, and hit start. It steams it then blends if. It takes me a couple minutes and then the machine does everything. I admit though that it's expensive and if you don't want to spend the money, a regular blender works fine. You just have to steam the food yourself.

  • I second Pinterest. I also have a ninja so I'll be using that. I'm going to do apples and squash first since those are in season right now and I'll just freeze them until he's ready.

  • I have the baby bullet system which really actually isn't that expensive, about 70$ and you can use it for other food if need be but it comes with all the storing systems as well!! Little cute containers for the freezer that can be dated. I also got those munchkin freezer cube trays which are great for snack sized portions of purées and pop out quick n easy. And I don't really have any recipes though as I just purée fruit n veggies as they are or use what we're eating for dinner and purée that as long as they don't have a lot of spices or anything in them. ☺️
  • You ladies are making me want to do this! If I do I'll just use my Ninja and maybe buy an extra pitcher just for that!

  • Thank you ladies. I started off making carrots and that was a success. I tried green beans and I'm trying squash today. That is in the oven right now cooking. I also bought sweet potatoes. This is so worth it as the cost of food is so expensive. Have any of you tried making cereal?
