NBR- pink eye... (Long)

So... Apologies in advance for any typos or anything of that sort as I am typing this with one eye open. It seems I have contracted pink eye, from my daughter, who caught it from her dad and well... You get the point! Anyways, for my daughter (she's 4) we saw 3 doctors, who each gave a different opinion. First doctor said it was bacterial, gave her drops which made it a hell of a lot worse. Second doctor who was an eye doctor didn't say WHAT it was, but have different drops. We finished the 7 days of drops (which is HELL for a 4 year old might I add) which still didn't cure the infection. The third doctor said it was viral, since the drops didn't do anything, and to let it run its course and suffer through it. Anyways, 4 days after the drops were finished her pink eye cleared up. The very next day, I woke up with a disgusting eye! I'm now on day 5 (today was my baby shower... Which sucked :( ) I'm desperate for help here! Has anybody found anything to help with viral conjunctivitis that wouldn't be found on Google? I've tried everything. Heeeeelp !

Re: NBR- pink eye... (Long)

  • My daughter had this as well and the drops didn't work too. The only thing we did was put warm wash cloth over her eye through out the day and also used a cotton pad and wiped the eye. Of course it is just a waiting game which sucks so I feel your pain. Hopefully it will feel better and clear up soon!

  • Yeah, warm compresses, and make sure to throw out any eye makeup you've used since your daughter got it (you can reinfect yourself).
  • Also no contacts, if you wear them, until cleared up. Agree about the eye makeup PP mentioned.
  • Try otc similson (spelling?) irritated eye relief. I was desperate earlier this pregancy to get rid of pink eye. It's homeopathic and actually worked great at treating the symptoms and not looking gross. Went away quick. Tried at it very 1st symptom with my next kiddo and it went away before full blown pink eye.
  • Cold teabags? Poor you feel better soon! And hot cloth to clean it
  • I had pink eye last week, mine was bacterial because it cleared up with antibiotic drops right away. Like PP said throw away contacts, clean makeup brushes, wash your pillow cases/sheets. Cold compresses help. Hope you find some relief!

  • Thanks guys! Cold tea bag sounds like a great idea. Still hoping for a miracle drop ... Going to the optometrist today!
  • Oh my gosh- I have had it 3 times in the past year (Sep/Dec/Feb).  I never had it in my life prior to that, even as a kid!  Every time it was viral took several weeks to go away.  Also every time I had it, I was sick w/ another illness so probably low immune system. (I was sick a lot this past year thanks to a young child in daycare).  It only took 3 times to get smart and quit reinfecting myself. :-/  Things I learned- yes, you have to throw away ALL of the makeup that may have touched your eyes.  I sterilized my makeup brushes.  I threw away every contact case I owned and bought all new ones.  Hopefully that worked b/c I haven't had it in 6 months now!
