Anyone else feel short of breath at times already?

This is our second pregnancy. Our first is 3 years old and I'm currently seven weeks pregnant (guessing). My first OB appointment isn't for another week and a half. I don't remember feeling so short of breath so early with our first one. Anyone else get short of breath?

Re: Anyone else feel short of breath at times already?

  • Yes! This is my first pregnancy and I'll be 9 weeks tomorrow. I have had shortness of breath for a few weeks now. It's so annoying!

  • I'm too walking up and down my stairs feels like I just ran a mile or something. I'm going to be 9weeks on Wednesday and this will be our fourth. I thought I was the only one going through this.
  • Yes, and I was in pretty good shape before pregnancy. It's kind of annoying, because I feel like I can't do as much as I did before.

  • I noticed my legs feel like lead going up the stairs to my apartment just this last week (7w) and I wasn't sure if it was pregnancy or me just being lazy. I take those stairs every day at least once if not more.
  • Yessss. Running, even intervals, has become such hard work. And when I lie down at night I often find myself wheezing.
  • Yup, stairs are the worst. I live in NYC and commute by subway with lots of stairs and by the time I get out from underground I'm totally winded. I usually have to stop and sit on a bench for a moment or two to catch my breath.
  • I wasn't in great shape but I definitely feel like a lard ass these days. Walking up and down stairs is the worst - I get out of breath and my legs feel like lead. Glad I'm not the only one!
  • @ladysamlady, I was going to say the same about the subway steps. Geezzz Louise I am pooped by the time I reach the top.
DH is a fast walker. I have to ask him all the time now to slow down, I just can't keep up!

  • @yogahh whenever possible I take an escalator and chill to the right like it's a carnival ride which I never used to do!
  • So relieved to know its not just me. Thanks ladies
  • All the time....I was mopping and vacuuming today and it took forever because I kept having to stop and catch my breath! So annoying. This never happened with me first till the third trimester!

  • I easily get tired walking.. Even short distance. Most especially when I climb up the stairs. This will be my first baby and I am sooo excited.. (:
  • It happens to me at random times. I don't have to be doing anything strenuous. I read online that progesterone causes this.
  • This happened to me last night while I was laying in bed, of all places. When I was pregnant with DD this and heart palpitations were my very first symptoms. It got so bad that I actually went to see a cardiologist... Turns out I was just pregnant, oops :)
  • Yes that was my first symptom . I was getting winded walking the dog around the block when I normally workout 5 days a week !
  • Yes I ended up in the er with heart palpitations shortness of breath and some chest pain ! They did a pregnancy test it was negative but a week later I took one and bam - preggo !
  • Taking a shower this morning was pretty exhausting, lol. All I want to do is lay down and sleep. Once I'm up and moving around I feel better, but I still am moving slower than normal. When I walk somewhere with my husband I'm always trailing behind, hahaha.
  • Yes! I tired going for a walk in the park with my 8 month son (through adoption so this is first pregnancy) to beat the fatigue as suggested and oh my! I was so out of breath! Crazy! Then my husband was taking my heartbeat last night to compare to babies (iPhone app) and just moving to empty a bin of toys for my son to play with my heart rate was 89 then after a few min still it went to 68. So crazy!
  • My first symptoms (though I didn't link the two till a week later when I took a test) were feeling short of breath, having massive spikes in heart rate and getting light headed every time I stood up.  I'm not in terrible shape so it seemed strange. 9 weeks now and I still feel like I need a break mid shower because I'm out of breath just washing my hair. Walking along a flat surface my heart rate is going to 105!
  • So glad to see this mentioned! I am 8 weeks and have had shortness of breath for a few weeks! I have to climb 3 levels of steps at work and I usually could make it up in stride but now I am taking my time. I was actually in good shape (for me at least lol) before and even ran a 5k when I found out at about 5 weeks! Blah!
  • Same here, and I found out we were expecting when I was 4 weeks, so pretty early, and one of the first differences I noticed was my heart feeling fluttery and being out of breath.
  • I'm not the most frequent exerciser but I noticed this the other day. I went outside to talk to my husband and felt winded. I tried doing squats and my legs felt like cement. I hope this passes!!
  • I ran a 5k this past weekend and was never out of breath, yet walking across my work building, going upstairs or even after eating a large meal, I get short of breath. I don't like the feeling of not getting enough air.

  • Wow it's nice to know I'm not the only one. I wasn't in shape before this pregnancy. But not over weight just never worked out. We live on the 3rd floor so I struggle getting up the stairs. And sometimes just talking too much makes me short of breath. It was one of the first signs before we found out we were expecting. Now I'm 8 weeks and I just signed up for yoga classes to help with my breathing!
  • Hey everyone, I'm very relieved to read that a lot of you seem to have the same problem as I have. I haven't done any sports in some time and I already thought I had become a physical wreck... Now I know, there's hope that I'm not =D But some sports might help, guess I'll search for some gymnastics classes or something like that.
