Sleep! (or lack of it)

This is mostly a vent, but I'm exhausted!  My DD has decided after sleeping for 5hours for the first 6 weeks of her life, that she only likes to sleep 2-3 hours a night again (she's 12.5 weeks now).  I am rarely getting more than 2.5 hours of straight sleep anymore.  I can't even figure out if she's really that hungry most of the time, but it seems like she is.  I try to give her a pacifier and sometimes that calms her down but she usually wakes up again like 15 minutes later.  I just find it odd that she used to sleep longer and now stopped.  I've tried everything that I can think of.  I even had her takes bottles for a couple days so that I knew she was getting enough milk and that didn't help.  I feed her every 3/3.5 hours during the day.  I put her down at 8:30, dream feed her at 11:00, then she's up at 2:30 and 5:30.  Then she would sleep until 10 if I let her, but my 2 year old is up at 8/8:30 so I still can't get a longer stretch!  I'm basically a single mom because of our work schedules and I'm just so tired of being a zombie!  I also feel bad for my 2 year old that I just can't get the energy some days to do stuff with her.  Anyways, I just needed to vent a little.  I'm sure some of you are still in the same situation.  I read the sleep thread and it seems that a lot of LOs are definitely stretching their sleep out better at this time.  If anyone has any advice though, I'll take it!

  • She is changing and she is growing… This is what she needs right now you'll have to bear through it. Then she'll probably get back to sleeping longer and then it'll change again as she grows and changes

  • My LO has also been waking up every two hours for a bottle. I agree with @ecloho it seems she's going through a growth spurt.

Normally I would agree, but this has been going on for 6+ weeks! I know things change and everything has a phase, but this sure is a long one lol!

  • Is she in a crib, swing, rock and play? Is she in something different during the day while she naps?
  • I know how you feel (to an extent) I'm currently laying on the couch trying to get baby to fall asleep in her swing so I can take her to my room and put her in the bassinet. She rarely wakes up in the middle of the night anymore, but suddenly tonight she did. I tried to feed her, she pooped. Changed her after waiting a bit, then she went again! Waited 10 minutes and talked to her and changed her again, and she went AGAIN! Tried to feed her the rest of her bottle hoping she would go to sleep like always, but no! After I fed her she was in her bassinet WIDE awake and talking and screaming! It's almost 2:30 now, been awake for about an hour and a half, it's time to sleep now baby!! Please!! Vent over....lol

She naps in a swing or Rock n play, and sleeps at night in her crib.

  • My LO wakes up every 2-3 hours; she has never slept more than that.  She is 10 weeks old.

    Just saying… I sympathize!
  • Mine has been waking up every 1-2 hours for the past 3 weeks. I ordered a zipadee zip today to see if this helps a little since i can't swaddle him anymore (he rolls). He was waking up twice a night before then and now it's 5-6 times. I'm exhausted and frustrated!
  • Sorry ladies, but I'm glad I'm not alone! I never realized how different kids could be. My older DD was sleeping 10-11 hours at this time. If I could get 5 right now, I would be so excited. I just want to have energy again, and really want to be able to workout. I only get about an hour a day when both kids are sleeping, and I'd love to be able to do something other than sleep then too. I'm debating on quitting the 11:00 dream feed to try to at least sleep longer in the first stretch. DH will give a late bottle and I can just pump before bed, but DD1 does to bed at 9:00, so by the time I finish things up for the day, it gets pretty late anyways. I was debating on calling her pediatrician to see if she has advice. I mostly find it so odd that she used to sleep 5-6 hours.
