Tea

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a tea they like that is pregnancy safe? Brand/ flavor? I have been having a cup of lemon ginger tea every night and loving it... Well it turns out it contains lemongrass which is considered unsafe during pregnancy.. I need a new suggestion if anyone has something herbal they like! Not a big fan of mint..

Re: Tea

  • I am so glad you said something. I went to check my lemon ginger tea which also has lemon grass and hibiscus, both not good! I drank it so much last week! Yikes! My peppermint is good, only has peppermint.

  • Earth momma angel baby has a variety pack of pregancy tea that's been terrific. So far I've only had the morning wellness tea because I'm always nauseous, but there's also a heartburn tea, mommy relax tea, and a third trimester tea.
  • Lemongrass is a no-go? I heard licorice and peppermint were off limits but I didn't know about lemongrass. Do you know the reason?
  • Rosemary is a no go also.

  • I read peppermint was fine
  • Red raspberry tea is also off limits...I stick to bigelow (sp?) brand pomegranate green tea and their decaf stuff. I didn't know about the lemon grass! Good to know! I think peppermint is fine though ....anyone have a link to where it says it's not recommended? I'm gonna be super bummed if it's true :(

I thought red raspberry is a main ingredient in all those "pregnancy teas"? I was just about to buy some!
  • Red raspberry leaf tea is used during the third trimester in increasing amounts as you near your due date. I don't think it's recommended before then.
  • Rooibos Tea. Got mine at Whole Foods. 365 brand, which is organic. Tastes like an Orange Creamscicle-so good!! My doctor also said my beloved green tea is fine to continue. Good luck!
  • Peppermint is safe. Is lemongrass really not safe? I just bought some lemon ginger tea for my ms. :(

  • This is the article I found that breaks it down the easiest to check your teas ingredients. I researched the different herbs it listed individually which were in my tea and it proved to be accurate : (. My lemon ginger tea was just so delicious...

  • Peppermint is fine now. You'll want to avoid it while breastfeeding though.
  • I picked up an apple cinnamon one and it's pretty good!

Yup. Red raspberry tea can cause contractions. It's actually recommended to help induced labor once it's time. Thanks so much for the linky!

Updated to Add what I found about it:

    Red Raspberry Leaf
(Likely Safe) – Rich in iron, this herb has helped tone the uterus, increase milk production, decrease nausea, and ease labor pains.  Many pregnancy teas contain red raspberry leaf to help promote uterine health during pregnancy. There is some controversy about whether this should be used throughout pregnancy or just in the second and third trimester, so many health care providers remain cautious and only recommend using it after the first trimester.

  • I like plain decaf black tea.
  • Ladies, be sure to check the actual ingredients list in teas. I found that even if it's called "Ginger Tea" sone still contain things like licorice. I have yet to find a single ginger tea that's safe. I had one that I thought was safe but I didn't know about the lemongrass and sure enough it's in there
  • I stopped drinking tea once I found out i was expecting! I was way to scared to accidentally drink something that was a big no-no and keeping track of the "okay stuff" seemed overly complicated. I'm thinking I'll have to try hot lemon or ginger water or maybe just some warm apple cider to help replace my coffee.
  • I love to make my own tea. A few pieces of ginger root boiled on the stove. Remove the root and then serve with a spoonful of honey
  • Oh, man. I was downing at least a cup a day of mint tea last week, it was helping to settle my stomach....after reading this thread, I look at the label and of course! It contains hibiscus. :(

Guess I need to go shopping for a pregnancy friendly mint team...
