Procardia

Is anyone else taking procardia for preterm labor? I'm just wondering what your experience is. I am 31 weeks 1.5cm dilated and 20% effaced. I get contractions all the time.

Re: Procardia

  • My dr has me on Indomethacin for contractions but says I have to be switched to something else soon because the Indomethacin can deplete the amniotic fluid.

Yes, I have for the last three pregnancies, usually starting at 28-30 weeks and going until 36 weeks, where instead until 38 weeks with my second pregnancy and 37 weeks with my third.
  • I'm on it too. In was on a shot. I'm 31 weeks as well.
  • I was on it my first pregnancy and have a feeling I'm going to have to start it again very soon! It's a life saver
  • lurking from D15, as I may deliver as soon as N15 (or even O15!). i've been on procardia/nifedipine for over 5 weeks now (29w now), and it's been interesting for me. my dosage is 1-2 pills every 4-6 hours depending on how bad my contractions are. i do ok with 1 pill, but have horrible side effects with 2. dr told me to not take them every time i have contractions, but only if they get really bad, because apparently your body can get used to it and then the medicine starts losing its effectiveness. i'm not dilated but my cervix has shortened to 2.2cm, which is why i'm trying my best to keep these contractions under control!
  • 31 weeks today and put on procardia. Went to the hospital last night with contractions and two terbutaline shots later with some fluids took care of them. Went to the OBGYN today and was having contractions 3-4 min apart on the monitor!!!! To be honest I didn't really feel anything. Crossing my fingers I can make it to at least 36 weeks (suppose to be having my cerclage removed at 37 weeks before all this started). I'm still working full time in the OR and am skeptical as to how long I can keep this up.
  • Im on procar and prog injections. Didnt really do anything. Im having timed contractions and 70% effaced and dialated to a two.
  • I was put on Procardia/Nifedipine for high blood pressure/preeclampsia. I got cocky and thought I was doing just fine and it hit me, hard. Dizzy, flushing (My face is scarlet red), nausea, joint pain and really bad chills. (I like my home a toasty 64 degrees, It's 72 now and I'm still shaking.) I'm on one slow release pill a day. My reaction to it really sucks, but whatever will keep my little guy safe & growing longer is worth the side effects.
  • Yeah I made the mistake of taking it on an empty stomach at work and that was no joke... Hit me like something fierce! I starting feeling like I was going to pass out. Turned sheet white and super dizzy. Went home at lunch and slept for 5 hours on the couch. Since then took it with food and have been better for sure but not sure how I'm suppose to keep this up for 5 more weeks :/
  • Is anyone else's procardia making them feel extremely sick?
  • Yes!!!! And I sleep all day :/
  • oh yes! Sicker than a dog and making it extremely hard to eat.
  • Same here. I have a 4 year old that needs me to care for him since my husband works all the time. It is so hard to even get out of bed since I feel so horrible.
