Update: I got a call back the bleeding is normal , she said it's mostly "breakthrough" bleeding and is NORMAL ! And to continue taking my BC .

Ok so I had my "6 week" pp check up last week when I was 7 weeks pp and I was prescribed BC .
I asked for the BC I had prior to getting pregnant .

Now , i already called the NP earlier today and left a message so she can get back to me tomorrow since it's the weekend .

*sorry it's kinda long*

I started my BC the day after I got it. so I took it Wednesday @ 6:30 and so on and so fourth . Thursday night when I went to take a shower around 12am I noticed spotting when I was getting undressed . I didn't think anything of it because I know it's possible to spot when you start a new pack of BC and also because my body is in the process of still getting itself back on track . With that being said today is now Sunday and last night I noticed the "spotting" to be a little more then just spotting but nothing to concerning. This leaves me today , I noticed I'm not spotting anymore I'm bleeding . Not a lot but enough to kinda fill up a whole liner .

Is this normal ? Has anyone experienced this ? Advice ?
I'm also not BF . If that matters . I've also never had any issues since giving birth .

  • You can get a period within just a few weeks after delivery if you're not BF.
  • Loading the player...
  • I know , but I was 7 weeks PP with no sign of a period and all of a sudden I start my BC and I start spotting the 2nd day after starting BC again and bleeding 5 days into the pack .
  • Not that this helps but I'm BF and had my pp at 6 weeks and started my period 2 days after my appointment. ...kind of bummed that BF didn't keep it away...lol so it could just be it's your time to get it back?
  • Depending in the BC, there might not have been enough hormones to stop/alter your cycle. I am o. The mini/progesterone only pill and had a period at 5&7w pp.

This. The exact same thing happened to me. I am on a combo pill and started bleeding again about 10 days into my first pack. It was similar to/ as heavy as my worst day of PP bleeding. My dr recommended 800mg ibuprofen (she said this helps slow down bleeding) and she said I could take two BC pills if I wanted per day until the bleeding stopped. It only took a few days and was completely gone. You should def call your dr though. She said if it went more than 5 days, I soaked through a pad in a hour or passed clots bigger than a quarter to call/go to ER. I stopped BF and started my BC right around the same time- it was about 8wks PP
  • This is happening to me right now... I started my BC and then about 10 days in started bleeding and have been for a week now, not heavy but enough to need a pad. My cycles prior to getting pregnant weren't even a full week. I called my doctor and was told by a nurse that its normal and to continue taking the pills and if it is not regulated after 2 packs then to let them know. Not very helpful but could possbily be "breakthrough" bleeding until your body regulates the hormones.

Yes that's exactly what I was told . Would you by any chance know how long "breakthrough" bleeding can last for?
