Short/weak cervix

Hiya May mums. Just wondering if anyone here has been told they have a short or weak cervix and/or dealt with this with a previous pregnancy? I've had a few small ops and it looks like I may be dealing with this during this pregnancy and they may look at putting in a stitch to stop early labour. I'm very nervous

Re: Short/weak cervix

  • Hey!
I had a shortening cervix during my first pregnancy with our ds. I was put on modified bed rest and went into labor 3 weeks early. My ob wasn't overly worried but as a gymnastics coach I couldn't work after 20 weeks :(
Just take it easy and hopefully they wont have to stich you. But if they do, at least you're in good hands and they caught it early!

Wishing you all the best in your pregnancy!

  • Yea. I have a short/weak cervix. Dd was born 12 weeks early. Haven't gone for my first appt yet but I'll prob get progesterone starting early and maybe the stitch. We'll see as i progress. Bed rest is unnecessary since I'm a sahm and I take it pretty easy anyways. I'd be upset about pelvic rest tho :-/
  • Research Abbyloopers.  They have a board for woman with IC and how it can affect a pregnancy.
  • So having a short or incompetent cervix doesn't necessarily mean you will have baby in the second trimester? Feeling very scared
  • It depends. Your medical history, your cervical length, past procedures on your cervix, etc. all matter. Since you are already having issues this early in pregnancy and you have had medical operations before that possibly caused this if I were you I would be very proactive, meet with your doctor about your options and specific lengths, research your options fully about what different options are available to you and their success rates, the best time/doctors to do them, and check out Abbyloopers as soon as possible.
  • At 20 weeks my cervical length was 2.5. I was measured again at 23 weeks and it was <2. The tech seemed concerned and wouldn't answer any of my questions. She went to grab the dr. They spoke in private first. Then he came in and said "it's fine. Just write 2.3" the techs jaw dropped and she stared at him. I knew she didn't want to write fake numbers. Then he TOLD her "it's fine! Write 2.3"

I told my ob about this too. About the fake measurement & what the real measurement was. He also just said "it's fine"

I knew it wasn't fine. But 2 doctors told me it was. I could have gotten a 3rd opinion I guess but where do I stop? I should have said "No. You write the real measurement" I should have stood up for myself
