First time Momma (Carpal Tunnel & Diabetes)

Today I found out I have gestational diabetes and a couple days ago I found out I have carpal tunnel. I can barely move my hand without it being in excruciating pain. Driving has become a difficult task and so have many other little everyday tasks. I am a little over 32 weeks. Still working and going to start going to school again next week.

Anyways... I can't wait to hold my little baby and for all of these yucky side affects to go away. Haha

Any other mommas dealing with any of this? How are you coping?

  • I suffered with carpal tunnel with my first and it's only worse with this pregnancy. I'm just under 32 weeks and have been feeling the effects/pain this time around since about 12 weeks. It's awful. I can't even write more than about 5 words anymore without having to stop. I definitely suggest getting wrist guards to sleep in if you haven't already. I've had to start wearing them while driving and may even start wearing them when writing soon to see if that helps. Fortunately, it doesn't bother me too much with typing at work given the positionin of my keyboard or I'd be in serious trouble. Hang in there. I was fortunate in that it went away very quickly after I gave birth to my son. I dream about that day not only because I get to meet this awesome little one but also because these side effects will start going away!
  • I had carpel tunnel starting in my mid third trimester with my first, and it went away right after he was born. I'm not sure if that's typical, but hopefully yours goes away after baby comes!
  • I've had CTS since about 18 weeks, I'm now 34. It's in both hands and horribly painful, there are quite a few of us that have and there are a few posts previously made about it.
  • I have CTS and it sucks! I have had it worse in my left hand (no dominate) since about 6 months. It also keeps me up at night because of the pain, numbness and pins and needles...no fun!

Just started using the wrist guards at night. Makes them a bit less stiff when I wake up, but that still hurt.

I'm 36 weeks now and I am looking forward to yhis going away!
    Good luck!
  • I have gestational diabetes. I was diagnoses on Friday. I am going back to the hospital tommorow for more info/research. I was really shocked when I heard. They said my baby was "big" and "high up". I felt/feel guilty, a failure as a mom, like I am hurting her. I am happy I can go to the hospital tomm and understand better how to do deal with this. What is your experience so far?
  • I hope the carpal tunnel goes away quickly after birth. My sister developed it during pregnancy then it flaired and she could barely pick up the baby it hurt so bad, it eventually went away with steriods
