My LO currently still breast feeds using skin to skin in the football hold on either the couch or bed. We have a doctor appointment next week and live an hr outside of the city. I am nervous of him needing to be beast fed while we are out somewhere and it not going well because neither of us are used to doing it with close on. I am looking for some tips on how to breastfeed with our close on and in places that may not be as cozy as our bed or couch like a simple chair. I though I could pump but I'm still not able to pump too much milk in one sitting and am worried about not having enough. I plan to use a cover as I am not against covering up just wondering if anyone has any helpful tips to get to the point of being able to breadtfeed in public so we can go out.
Isn't your LO like a week old? If so the transitional milk has just started and there won't be much. At that point I was pumping a lot because my Lil guy had a little trouble in the beginning latching and he prefers bottles. I was only getting an ounce from both breasts at that point. He did get the hang of it and now we breastfeed and he gets an occasional pumped bottle from dad or grandma, he's 1 month and I'm starting to get 2oz from each breast. The supply goes up as baby starts wanting more. You will find out at pedi if baby is gaining enough weight. But as long as the diapers are filling up with clear yellow urine and atleast 2 poops every day you're doing great. As far as breastfeeding in public it will get easier as you both get the hang of it. I love nursing tops, camisoles, and bras that you can pull down to get 1 breast out rather than lifting a shirt and I just use a receiving blanket thrown over my shoulder as a cover. Instead of totally undressing baby just free up his hands and let him touch your skin or grasp your finger. That could help. Good luck!
Also my pediatricians office always tells me I am welcome to stay in the exam room and nurse my son before I leave if I need to... I'm sure yours will as well, if they don't offer just ask!
