Song suggestions for labor playlist

One of the last things I'd like to do before baby arrives is put together a playlist of songs to listen to while laboring, but I'm having a hard time coming up with ideas. Any suggestions? Plan to have a few separate lists so I can switch depending on how I'm feeling. Looking for some mellow, relaxing songs, but some more upbeat, inspirational ones too. My music taste is pretty broad so I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks!

Re: Song suggestions for labor playlist

  • Tracy Chapman songs were my jam while I was in labor with my son.
  • Loading the player...
  • Lol hope it all works out that you have time or energy to listen to your music . Don't plan to much, just experience
  • I would mix it up with music with no lyrics. I've heard that lyrics can sometimes become irritating. I have a classical piano station on pandora that I may use.
  • Good suggestions. Thanks! Just want to have playlists as an option. I have no idea how I will feel in labor, but music is usually soothing to me so I thought it could be useful. My husband just made a playlist for me too so it seems I will have options to fall back on. :)
  • I have rap/club music for the beginning and when times get tough, I was going to switch to a spa Playlist on Spotify and turn it down just for background noise.
For pushing, I'm turning on Salt N Pepper- push it!! Haha I'm kidding... maybe....
  • Hillsong united is on my list!
  • Sugar by Maroon 5. Bob Marley. David Gray. Bright by Echosmith. Ellis Paul. Hero by Family of the Year. Lord Of Huron. Jason Mraz.
  • I've been making a playlist on. Spotify and just browsing their instrumental/inspirational and upbeat stations. :) I have had a hard time thinking of songs too, so it's been nice just to pick and choose from what they have grouped by genre. Good luck!
  • If you download the 8tracks app, you can find playlists others have already made. I've saved some that are relaxation/meditation based and some that are music I enjoy. If you search "birth" or "labor" you can find some that others used as their labor music too.
  • It's not for labor but my dad put together a Hawaiian lullaby playlist for little Ruby when she gets here! I don't know if I will want music or not but it's so relaxing that may be a good avenue to take to calm you down!!
  • I plan on making a playlist of country music and classic rock. I'm thinking a little Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, Thomas Rhett, and Garth Brooks. For the classic rock I'm going with led Zepplin, lynyrd Skynard, Styx, Police, and Cars. I'm prolly going to through in some Mumford and sons, Maroon 5, and imagine dragons. It should be a party!!
  • I'm thinking a little bit of everything. Elton John, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, Eric Church, Luke Bryan, P!nk, Sublime, Hank Williams Jr. I really mean a bit of everything. May want to hear all of it or nothing at all but I guess I'll be prepared!
  • I have a playlist with instrumental meditation music and another with some of my favorite relaxed songs (some Enya, Michelle Branch, Sarah Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Sarah McLachlan, Michael Buble, etc.).  I put so much thought into mine along with my at-home labor supplies (yoga ball, heating pad, popsicles) and I'm going to laugh if I never even end up using any of it on the big day.  I guess it's good to be prepared!

  • The suggestions have been very helpful. I put together a few different playlists and now feel like I have options if I feel like listening to music when I'm in labor! I've also overprepared in general which means I likely won't need any of the things I've prepared. Lol! I'm ok with that.
