I feel like people don't like the name I picked out...

Me and my husband picked the name Beau for our son and I feel like whenever I tell someone the name they look at me weird. It could just be me being sensitive but I don't want him to get made fun of for his name when he gets older. I know I shouldn't care what other people think but it's hard not to sometimes. I would appreciate any opinions about the name either way good or bad I can take it :).

  • I know a couple of Beau's. I think it's a great name!

  • It's a great name.
  • It's not as common as it used to be, but it's a great name! Don't worry about what people think! I went to high school with a Beau and he never had any problems with his name.
  • I like it. It's a really strong name. I know for a fact a lot of people don't Like the name we chose but I love it and it means a lot to me :)
  • I think it's cute!! I have a friend who named his son Beau, I've never heard anyone make a negative comment about it!
  • I love it! I think it's a unique and strong name too!
  • I like unique and different names. I think it's a good one.
  • We've told a few people our name and had mixed results. It's ok! We love it!

Beau is a great name. Unique but not uncommon. Lots of guys out there named Beau!

This is why I don't tell anyone the name we have chosen. Typically people won't give you weird looks or say it's a weird name after baby is here.
I do like the name Beau.

  • I knew a Beau growing up, he's the only one I've met, until a friend of mine had a little girl last year and named her Beau. It's a great name, unique without being weird.
  • Jealous - I love Beau! DH wasn't fond of it, but it was at the top of my list. Great pick, mama.

I do like the name Beau.

Exactly why we've kept ours a secret as well!
  • I got told the name I picked out was awful too, ppl can be so rude! I know someone where I live that has a son that was born earlier this year and they named him Beau. I originally thought it was an awful name..but it has grown on me and nobody really seems to care about his name. Ppl will have opinions about any name you pick, so you might as well just pick what you want. And I don't think he will get made fun of later for his name by any kids.
  • Thank you ladies! It's So true not everyone will love the name like I do so I just won't let the negative comments bother me and go with what makes me happy.
  • I love the name Beau! :)
  • It's a great name, I truly like it. You can't please everyone though, that's just the way it is. The important thing is that you and your husband like the name.

Don't worry about what others think.  We are naming our son River and people either really love it or really hate it.  I don't care I love it! :)  I also think Beau is a great name.

  • Very unique. Keep it :)
  • Why do you care?

  • I love the name Beau!!! It's beautiful to me name your child the name u desire people going to talk regardless..
  • It's a great name ☺️ People stink and think their opinion in nameing your child actually matters... Good news is we know better
  • @bzinni Beau was our boy name, but we are having a girl. I love, love, love it and if this baby is our last, I'm going to be so sad that we won't use it. Beau is a strong, masculine name. People love and hate all kinds of names. Just because it's not their personal preference doesn't mean it's not a fabulous name.

  • It's a great name and I know people who have that name without issue
  • I think it's a great name. I knew a Beau in college and he was such a great guy.
  • My cousin is a Beau and I don't think he got made fun of for the name. We've been looking at Sage for a boy (which is considered unisex and there have been several male celebrities with the name) and everyone has an opinion.

I'm with my mom in that i'm not really deciding until he's born (my mom always picked names and then changed her mind when she saw our faces), but I really don't care what other people think.

As for being made fun of, remember that kids are cruel and if they want to tease they'll come up with something regardless of his name. As a Samantha I got "Sam the man" "spamaramadingdong" and other offensive names. My friend was "jess the mess". Even names you can't think of anything for, kids find a way. Hopefully your kid won't be bullied and if he is, grows up with the confidence to be unphased, but don't let the potential be criteria for your favorite name

  • I think it's a good name. I would just quit telling people what you plan on naming him. This is our go to response: "We do have a name in mind, but we're keeping it to ourselves until she arrives"

     :)
  • I'm in the same boat. People ask so I say Opal! And then they give me this look like why? That's such an old name. So I've started to say we're giving her a hand me down name from her great great grandmother. And people flip out that we are honoring my grandfather (who is amazingly still alive) like that. I now like that we have a little story to go with her name because it really helped me be not ashamed/embarrassed of picking such an "out dated" name.

The most important thing is that you like it!!! You are going to say that name more than any almost any other name for the rest of your life - so that's all that matters! Plus it's a great name so be proud!
  • There was a little Beau in Gone With the Wind! It's a great name

Beau was gonna be one of our names! Well, we decided between Beau and Bo but in the end, we are going with something else. I still love that name - hold your ground with confidence.
  • I think it's a fine name. We've picked a super boring name with a unisex nickname and we just aren't telling people because I don't want to hear anyone's opinion cause they don't get a vote ;)
  • I totally understand, I got the same reaction to my baby girls name. Even my boss would say 'really that's what you're going with?' Damn it was rude. But we loved the name and just let those comments roll off our shoulders.
  • People suck. I like Beau. My friend has a Beau and I couldn't think of a better name for that little boy. It's a strong name for what a handsome baby you will have.
  • Someone will ALWAYS disapprove. Your decision. Your opinion is the only one that counts.

This all day! People don't love the name until we tell the story, then we get that is so sweet and they love her nickname!!

I think Beau is a great name!!

My grandmothers name is Opal! I love that name ❤️ my daughter's middle name is Opal. My hubby wasn't fond of the name, so we agreed on middle, or I would have given her first name!
