2 week old - FF how much? Burping?

My DS is 17 days old tomorrow and used to eat 2.5-3oz every 4 hours until he hit about 10 days old then started wanting 3.5oz even 4 some feedings but now every 3 hours! Does it seem normal to be eating so much so soon and suddenly shift to an increase in amount along with shorter time in between feedings? Also, we switched from tommee tippee bottles to dr brown bc we noticed he was a little gassy and now we have solved that with the help of some drops but it's almost impossible to get him to burp! And since he was gassy once already, not burping as much now is nerve wracking. We split the feeding up and burp him halfway and 50% of the time he burps after the first have but only like 25% of the time will he burp at the end. I've tried diff burping positions. Any thoughts? I guess with the bottle switch and drops he could just not need to burp as much but I hear formula babies do need to burp more than BF babies so I dont know. He seems fine and is much better but I still worry he will slip again.

Re: 2 week old - FF how much? Burping?

  • My lo is 3 weeks old and eats 4-6oz every feeding, her Dr. said its okay and to give her as much as she wants to eat, she will stop when she is full. So we usually start out with 4oz and if she's still hungry give her the extra two. She usually eats every 2-3 hours but sometimes she wants to eat an hour after eating, I think it's all normal. We use Dr. Brown bottles also and she really doesn't have to burp much. I let her tell me when she needs to burp and that works better for us. She'll lay down and look around and then make little eh sounds and I just lift her to my shoulder and the burp comes out, usually no patting needed. I think ff babies need more burping because they swallow more air with bottles and Dr. B bottles are supposed to help with that. I used an evenflo bottle once and she needed to burp every 5 minutes and was so uncomfortable!

  • My little guy is a week old and will breastfeed for an hour and then sometimes still fuss and root. At this point my bleeding cracked nipples can't handle any more we give him formula to calm him down and fill him up. We give him up to 4 ounces on top of the breast milk he already consumed. My husband and I are shocked at how much he eats! I don't know if we're doing this right but at his first checkup his weight gain was spot on. I think every baby is different and you should just feed them until you can tell they are no longer hungry.
  • My LO is 3 weeks old, he eats 2.5-3.5 ounces every 3 hours. We use the Dr Brown bottles too, they are great for bottle feedings! We were using plain bottles before and after switching we noticed he didn't ingest as much air. Cleaning the pieces is s bit of a pain, but totally worth it for LO's comfort!

  • My little girl is 11 days old and she wants 4-5 oz.. But I don't know if her weight has anything to do with that, she was ten pounds at birth.
  • Feed baby what he wants/needs. He may be going through a growth spurt.

Not all babies burp often so if he doesn't burp it's okay. My baby rarely burps and is content. If she doesn't burp within a couple minutes of rubbing and patting her back, and she isn't acting like she has air in her tummy, then I move on.

  • DS is 13 days old and was almost 11lbs at birth. He was content with 2.5 ounces every 3-4 hours, but the past couple of days I've given 3 and he's asked for more! I put another ounce at a time in his bottle, and he usually ends up eating about 4-4.5. I was worried but I guess the big boy needs extra sustinence!
