My pregnancy story

edited September 2015 in November 2015 Moms
My husband and I were in a car wreck when I was 14 weeks pregnant with our first and my water broke that same night. A few days later, I started bleeding, leaking fluid and called my OB. She informed me that it was perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. A few weeks later at our 18 week appointment, the ultrasound tech told me that my amniotic fluid was dangerously low (I was supposed to have 9-11cm and I had 1-2cm) and that something needed to be done. I talked to my OB and she told me it was nothing to worry about. My husband and I didn't agree with her and knew we needed another opinion..so we went to a high risk pregnancy specialist. He told us that bleeding and leaking fluid was far from normal and that we needed to do something. He told us that the night of the car wreck I should've been given some meds and been hospitalized for a few days...none of which was done. (I didn't even get a ultrasound!) We made a few more trips back to see him before I was hospitalized at 27 weeks. I've been on complete bed rest in the hospital for almost 6 weeks now and they're planning a C section within the next month. I'm being monitored 2x daily for an hour and my unborn daughter is looking great. She's growing perfectly, she's right where she should be and seems to be in no hurry of coming anytime soon. It's been a hard pregnancy and hasn't gone the way I thought it would but I am so thankful she's growing and doing so well. I just wanted to share my story to maybe give some hope and encouragement to some other moms out there <3

Re: My pregnancy story

  • Wow! This is obviously a very special little baby girl you have in there... to overcome the accident and to still be growing strong despite the fluid leak. You are an equally strong Momma to be on bed rest in the hospital as long as you have! I would not be in anywhere near as good of spirits as you are now had I been in that situation. Best of luck to you for the remainder of your pregnancy, it will all be worth it when you meet your daughter.

  • You were so right to get a second opinion! Glad everything is well :)
  • Wow I am in shock! I can't believe your first doctor!!! I am so sorry your first pregnancy went like this! I would never be in as good of spirits as you!! Congratulations on your healthy baby girl despite all the complications going on!
  • Wow, I'm sorry you've gone through all that! It's amazing that your little one is still growing right on track! :)

On another note, if your midwife knew about the car crash, I think you need to report her. She obviously isn't taking care of her patients like she should be (negligence), or else she just plain doesn't know what she's doing. If you hadn't gone to get a second opinion, who knows what could have happened.
  • Glad everything is going more smoothly now. What a sucky experience! Especially for your first pregnancy. That's some scary stuff.
  • Wow! That's amazing your LO is still cooking after all you've been through! I can't believe your OB would tell you that bleeding after an accident was normal, when I got in a minor fender brnder, bleeding was the first thing my midwife told me to look for and to call immediately. Good thing you went with your instincts.
  • Your story completely took my breath away. I'm thinking of you and your family!
