Diarrhea... Worried

So I had pretty bad diarrhea this afternoon... A long with a lot of gastrointestinal pain/discomfort.

I guess I'm just not sure whether I should be concerned. Up until this point I was actually mostly constipated. And I'm just not sure with the tiredness and nausea that already comes with pregnancy how I am supposed to know when something is actually wrong (like listeria or whatever).

Re: Diarrhea... Worried

  • I had some issues yesterday, I really wouldn't worry too much about it unless there is blood in the stool. I realized jalapenos are not the best idea right now! :-SS

  • I have been SOOOOOO bloated. Is that normal this early? I don't ever remember this with my son.
  • Make sure you drink plenty of water! Diarrhea can sure dehydrate you. I wouldn't be to worried unless it continues.

@ktmannix bloating is very normal. Consider yourself lucky to not have that with your previous pregnancy!

  • Just drink plenty of water and try to eat fiber! If it continues for longer than you feel is normal or if you feel dehydrated contact your doctor.
  • I got it with my daughter very early on and I had it with this one already.  Couple days of got awful pain and running to the bathroom.  It will pass.  My body just responds that way to pregnancy apparently :)  Maybe yours does to?  Very common... I even asked my Dr to make sure all was well.  Eat a banana or 5 and chug water.  Good luck!

  • I suffer from ibs. So far its been a few days of blockage followed by a few days of not. Keep hoping it will regulate a little!
  • My body keeps going back and forth between to two as well. Nothing that goes on with my body is predictable these days. I think as long as it doesn't continue for more than a day or two you're probably fine. Drink lots of water!

  • I had it really bad for about two days and it cleared up on its own. Eat bananas, rice, toast, and applesauce. And drink plenty of water

  • So very common. Like PP said, if it lasts too long and you're getting dehydrated, call your doc. But sooooo normal for early pregnancy. Then 3rd trimester rolls around and you can't poop to save your life! haha
  • I never had diarrhea with my first two pregnancies, but then BAM...diarrhea with my third around 6-7 weeks. It eventually passed. It's totally normal :)

  • I have digestive issues to begin with but every morning I'm rushing to the bathroom about three times before leaving for work and at least once more before students arrive. I'm going to ask my midwife Wednesday if I should just make Metamucil part of my daily diet right now. Maybe they will regulate things a bit. Being that I already suffer from digestive distress and it has interrupted my life in the past, I'm do frustrated. Also can't eat bananas since I react to them (possible allergy).
  • I would take diarrhea over constipation any day.  But as PPs have said, it's a common symptom and nothing to worry about.

  • I had bad diarrhea for several days at 5 weeks. I ended up taking an Imodium because I was nervous about getting dehydrated. It cleared right up, haven't had an issue since then (week and a half ago.) Definitely check with a doc/nurse but the Imodium was a lifesaver for me!
