Hi!! FTM here and trying to get ready for our little guys arrival. I know dreft is the well known detergent for infants but does anyone have any other suggestions? Just curious!! Thank!
Pretty much all of the major brands (Tide, All, etc.) sell a detergent that is 'free&clear' or some variation of that wording. Basically it just means it has no dyes and no perfumes which is the important part when laundering clothes for baby's sensitive skin. They also tend to be significantly less expensive then Dreft.
Yup, what PP said. Any free and clear will do. And then some distilled white vinegar in the final rinse instead of fabric softener. No point in avoiding dyes and fragrance in the wash and then bombarding the clothes with all the chemicals in fabric softener/dryer sheets.
My pediatrician actually recommended using the free and clear (we used All free and clear with DD1) becasue it doesn't have the dyes and scent that Dreft has! We have loved it and with DD1 sensitive skin it has worked fantastic. The price is much better too!
Any free & clear brand is best. We use dōTERRA's laundry detergent that's all natural and safe for the whole family. We did get a bottle of Dreft as a baby shower gift but am going to wait and only use it if baby's skin isn't too sensitive. It has the same amount of chemicals as the normal/leading detergent and I don't even use that for my own clothes.
I am using the Method brand version of a free & clear.
Side-note: a good friend of mine swears by the Dreft stain remover - she has 3 kids and says it is the best she has found for getting out even the worst types of stains. I thought it was reasonably priced at $3 and the bottle was pretty large. It worked like a charm on my husband's shirt.

My washing machine also has a 10 minute pre soak setting, that worked WONDERS on all those spit up and blow out stains.
