Doula and VBAC

Has anyone had a c-section for a previous pregnancy and had a Vaginal Birth After Cesarean? I'm interested in learning more about this as well as the utilization of Doulas. I live in the Atlanta area so referrals are welcome too!

Re: Doula and VBAC

  • Yes, if you are trying to VBAC, get a doula if you can afford it. My first VBAC was horrible, so I hired a doula for my second. It was amazing. She knew tricks that my (very experienced and amazing) doctor didn't. Things that she told me she would do that sounded stupid (LED candles/aromatherapy/etc) ended up making a huge difference in the mood of our room. It was so much more peaceful and she was able to keep me calm. If DH hadn't been home when I took the pregnancy test for this baby, my doula would've been the first to know. That's how much I appreciated her being there.

  • Check around and interview alot.... also be very specific and ask questions about the birthing facility and closest hospital. GA is a very VBAC friendly state and it can be hard to meet your needs close to where u live.

Also... the reason you had the first csection may play a role too. If you just didn't progress or baby got stuck or had an issue... they may not let you

    good Luck!
  • Thank you! This was very helpful
    and informative.
  • My doulas (my labor crossed three shifts) were worth every penny and then some. While my husband remained my primary birthpartner, they provided information and guidance, as well as comfort measures which were really helpful. They empowered my husband so that he felt (and was) useful throughout. I particularly recommend a doula if you hope to avoid pain medication.
