Making Baby Food

If you make your own baby food, or plan on it, please share your favorite accessories, and process you all are doing! Appreciate it! I didn't make baby food with first two but I am this time around. There are a ton of machines out there as well as easy accessories. Curious to see if anyone has a favorite, or if there are any "must haves" for an on the go mom.
thanks again!

Re: Making Baby Food

  • I have a great Kitchen Ninja blender already, so if I decide to do any purees, I am not buying anything else.  I have some storage cubes for the freezer to freeze food portions for her too.
  • Loading the player...
  • I just started to make it. I use the ninja master prep professional and think it works great. I had it so I didn't buy anything. I also got silicone ice cube trays to freeze it because I found it hard to pop it out of the regular ice cube trays.
  • We use a blender stick and pop them in the ice cube trays. So far we've made stemmed carrots, stemmed peas, roasted squash and roasted apples.  It's worked out really well and is quick. The only solids that we've purchased is rice cereal.
  • We just bought the baby bullet! We ha net used it, but my cousin said it works great
  • Thank you for your input ladies!!! ☺️ much appreciated!

We use a food mill. We also have a portable munchkin food mill that we got for $10 when we are on the go. Works out great!

We also mostly steam fruits and veggies, as needed, to keep the nutrients in.
  • How does everyone heat up the purrees from frozen? Microwave in a glass bowl?
  • I use the baby bullet with the accessories and a mini rice cooker. I've made bananas and carrots so far. Ive mixed it with my milk, water and a little rice cereal. I freeze it in the silicone ice trays and defrost in the fridge in the jars that came with the bullet and heat up by sticking the jar in a bowl of hot water. I also am trying out freezing in breast milk bags...we will see how that goes!
  • I am using an immersion blender that we got for our wedding and I had previously never used. We don't have a ton of kitchen storage space so I didnt want to buy something baby specific and then have to store it. The blender is essentially just a hand held stick blender. I just steam the food then puree it in a big bowl and transfer it to these little one oz Tupperware containers i already had. Then i freeze them in there and take them out and put them in the fridge the night before i need them and either stick the container in a bowl of hot water to unfreeze it the rest of the way or stick in the microwave for like 15 secs.
  • I made baby food today for the first time! The taste is stronger than the store bought stuff! She made a funny face at first but I guess she got used to it!
  • I just use my food processor, put in ice cube trays, freeze and then store in gallon freezer bags.  I pull out a couple at a time and just let them thaw out in the fridge.  If I need it right away I will just put in the microwave for a few seconds and that will do the trick.
  • Nuk has microwaveable containers at Target, they are on their website atleast. They come with lids/different sizes and are also good to go in the freezer. Go Iowa State!
  • Is there any harm feeding them cold or room temperature food?
  • I use a blendtec blender. It's expensive but we are chefs and use it for a lot of other things. I have the OXO containers and the babies r us brand containers and both are great. I just roast veggies with no seasoning and blend.
  • I have a Beaba. Today i literally made a batch of apples, pears and carrots. He's only had apples so far, but I have been serving them with his cereal and I make the cereal with warm formula so the apples are pretty much room temperature.
  • I'm thinking of getting this avent steamer/blender https://www.mumzworld.com/en/philips-avent-combined-baby-food-steamer-and-blender
It looks easy enough but i still want to do more research.

I was planning on getting the food storage containers that lets you freeze the rest of the food for later but my mum shot my plans down and said to make it fresh everyday. I think that once i start i'll know if i want to freeze or if i can manage making it everyday
  • It is insane to make it fresh everyday. Definitely freeze. If you already have a blender or food processor, there's no need to get something special to make the food.
  • I got the baby bullet and steamer. So simple I love it. I am personally making extra and freezing it. I would love to make it fresh everyday but that's just not very plausible. Do whatever you have to do. Making your own baby good is already so much more nutritious, I don't think you should get too hung up on if you freeze it, you're already doing a great job.
