Non-serious question for STM: feeling of imminent labor?

This is just a question I'm curious about; I don't actually think I'm going into labor. It's probably more of a question about superstition than anything.

Ever since I went into labor the first time at 28 weeks, I've just had this feeling that baby's gonna arrive before/at 34 weeks. I'm 33+4 today, and I just feel...ugh. Starting a few hours ago I've had more pressure on my cervix than ever, (TMI alert) more discharge than ever, more hip pain, and the feeling that he's going to arrive soon is just getting...stronger?

So, have any of you second+ time moms had a feeling that you were going to go into labor soon, and did it turn out to be true? Not that it really matters; I know he'll come when he decides to. I'm just curious :)

I knew I was getting closer with DD only because we were getting closer to the 40w mark. I had no idea otherwise... that is, until my water broke on the couch and I started having contractions.

I've googled this but haven't found much; did you feel anything before your water broke?
  • The only thing I can remember is that the baby had dropped so I was feeling more pressure on my cervix. Nothing crazy but definitely noticeable to me. I had no idea my water was going to break though since I had heard that it doesn't happen for a lot of women. When it did, I felt a pop and a gush. I immediately knew what it was.

I felt. . . Weird the night before my water broke. I was a little nauseous and had some cramping, but nothing obvious enough to make me think I was going into labor.

Eta I did not begin feeling contractions until I was on a pitocin drip for hours. I didn't start the drip until hours after my water broke.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

I've also been having some nausea, which is strange because I haven't had any in months. It hit me like a wave earlier and lasted for about 20 minutes. Hmm. (Can you tell I'm 'symptom spotting' now? Haha)
  • I'm in the same boat right now I'm 33 weeks 4 days and today I have been having a crazy amount of pressure, I'm nauseous, and having cramps.
  • Crazy. I'm 34 weeks tomorrow and the cramping and slight nausea started for me today, and my hips and back hurt more than ever. I feel so uncomfortable. I wonder if this is just normal for this stage? I have been wondering if it's impending labor too. Hope not!! As much as I am dying to meet her, she's got some cookin left to do.
  • Same here. I am 33+5.  Crampiness and pressure all day, nausea & even some brown spotting.  As excited as I am to meet him, he needs to stay in a bit longer.  I too am wondering if this is just normal for this stage now that I see these comments.

  • I have no idea if it's common, but I find it kind of weird that it would all start getting more intense in one day. Since I posted this I'm starting to get crampy, too. Maybe I'm just hyping myself up, though. We'll see, I guess :)
  • before i went into labor i had some sort spots on my belly and had zero energy. Felt off.

  • Even though I am a STM I feel unprepared to go into labor. People are asking if I have felt any BH and I am just like I don't know...no? I feel like being induced just left me unprepared for this one.
  • There is no sure fire way to know for sure before hand. This is baby number 4 and I had no signs of labor before hand for the previous 3. It wasn't until the contractions started that I knew I was in labor or that it was close. I also never felt the bh and don't believe I am feeling them with this one either :) I'm not sure, can't tell if it's bh or the baby just moving and putting lots of pressure in one area. Good luck and hopefully the yucky feeling goes away soon!
  • 2nd baby but had to be induced with the 1st. I'll be 34 weeks tomorrow. This baby has been measuring a bit big the whole pregnancy. My mom just told me all her kids were early. Could have sworn I was having back labor last night. But, I was at a concert for 3+ hours sitting in a small seat in the same position all that time. Once I was home and laying down, much better. Discharge has increased and vaginal swelling has started. I think it's all normal though. It's easy to over think symptoms. Take it easy but listen to your body and communicate with your doctor.
  • This. Diarrhea for a week, irregular but actual contractions, being 2 cm dilated, loss of mucus plug, and pelvic pressure makes me think she's going to pop out right now. I did get checked for preterm labor and that was negative so that pretty much means she will not be here for at least 7-10 days but... I'm still doubting and analyzing every symptom lol

    ----quote fail----

Yes, I've read that it means there's less than a 5% chance but clearly I feel like I'm going to end up part of that small percentage lol.

  • Please comment back if any of you ladies actually go early. I have been feeling like poop the last 2 days, sleeping horribly, stomach is sore and back is in constant pain. BH were intense yesterday but that's all I'm experiencing other than lots of pressure. I'm a FTM would love to know if any of this could or would lead to an early delivery
  • I felt these symptoms with baby #2 at 33-35 weeks. He didn't come until 39 weeks. I am also feeling similar things with this oregnancy, but I don't believe he's coming anytime soon. Just try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy.
  • I had an earlyish labor with our first (at 36w6d) i was in complete denial that I was even in labor I assumed my contractions were normal bh until they got close enough that I went in to be checked and they told me I was 4cm.

In hindsight, when I look at the photo of my belly I took that day I was wearing my husbands sweatshirt, which I only wear that particular sweatshirt when I don't feel good. Other than that everything seemed totally normal, no waters, no mp, nothing concerning.

This. DS was induced at nearly 42 weeks because he just wasn't leaving on his own. I didn't have a single BH, no nesting, no nausea or tummy upset, no show, no back or hip pain, no feeling off...nothing. This time I've been having BH since 22 weeks, increasingly strong hip and back pain, the occasional burst of mad nesting energy, and theres been the odd wave of nausea making itself known. I'm a bit worried about recognising actual labour when it happens because I've been having symptoms for a while, plus with DS not only was my labour fast, but I went from zip to 8cm dilated without actually realising anything was happening.
  • So a kind-of update: I was feeling even worse yesterday (took 2 3 hour naps, super naseous, headache-y, etc.). At about 10pm last night I started having super intense contractions about 3 minutes apart. Took a procardia, waited an hour and was still having contractions, so I took another (I was told to take 2 two hours apart, then go to the hospital if they still didn't stop). 45 minutes after the second one, they finally stopped.

So far I'm feeling quite a bit better today. Still pretty tired, but no nausea. I'm curious to know if all of this was a coincidence? haha
  • My mucus plug came out once at home with my daughter and with my oldest at my 38 week checkup. Then both times later that day/ within 24 hours my water broke at home.. Not sure if that helps but if you have an excessive amount of mucus come out along with a tinge of blood then it's most likely the mucus plug. I didn't call my doc at that point because it can be days or weeks before anything else happens but that's usually one of the first signs of labor. It doesn't sound like that's happened to you yet. Hopefully you can go the full 39/40 weeks! Try not to worry too much but be ready just in case!
