Did she just say what I think she said?!

I was at target today and while I was checking out the girl asked me if I had any children. I'm sure she was just trying to make small talk and given what I was buying it's obvious I have children. So, I was like, "yes, I have a 2 year old and 2 month old." Her reply, "Oh, nice. How far along are you now?" Hmmmmm...."Oh, I'm not pregnant, I JUST had a baby." I could tell she was embarrassed and of course i just laughed it off. I didn't think anything of it at first but then as I was walking out to my car I started thinking, wow, do I really still look THAT pregnant/fat that someone's going to ask me "how far along are you?" It was just kinda a kick in the teeth because I actually thought I was looking kinda good....I mean I still have some weight to lose (10-15lbs) but I didn't think I looked that fat. Whatev, right? I'll lose the weight eventually.

  • I know how you feel. I went to the dentist today and the dental hygienist asked if I was 7-8 months pregnant...if only he knew what I looked like in July.

  • Ouch. I got it at a funeral a few weeks ago, but it was a much older woman. I was talking to 1 if my moms coworkers and she said "congratulations mama" and other coworkers mother looked at me and said "oh congratulations, when are you due?" When we corrected her, she felt aweful. I don't think she would have said anything had it not been brought up by someone who knows me.
  • Not only is it rude...it's kinda stupid. If you have a 2 month old, you couldn't be more than 2 months pregnant even if you were, which is not enough to show. Some people...

I was JUST thinking that.. you told her you have a 2 month old. Use some common sense lady!
  • I don't know if you saw my post about the Dunkin donuts lady, but I just had the same thing happen to me. What the hell is wrong with people?! So sorry that happened to you too!
  • A lot of people talk without listening, or thinking. She may have not even been looking at you before it came out of her mouth. I wouldnt take it personal. If she had been listening or thinking She would have realized how difficult it would be for you to be showing, let alone pregnant, given you have a 2 month old. I would chalk it up to mindless yammering of the cashier trying to participate in small talk without really paying attention.
  • It's so hard. I go into stores without lo and get the same questions and I'm buying baby products!
  • This is exactly why I make it a rule not to say anything to a potentially pregnant woman unless she is super far along and obviously showing!
  • This makes me want to never leave the house.
  • Try not tI take it personally. I'm pretty slender and don't have much extra weight but I have (what I feel is) an obvious tummy at 6 weeks pp. if someone said something to me I would just enjoy watching them squirm as i told them I wasn't pregnant!
