Anyone had an upper track respiratory infection early on in their pregnancy?

Hi Everyone!

I'm a first time mum and just wondering if anyone else has been really sick early on in their pregnancy! Im only just 7 weeks and im freaking out :(

It all started with a viral throat infection (really sore throat) then a week later it was a sinus infection (sore throat, horrible congestion, aches and pains) that needed antibiotics (cephalexin x 5 days) and a week later I went back to the doctors because I've developed a terrible cough and just don't seem to get 100% better without having a replas! And suprise suprise I need to continue on more antibiotics because I had a upper tract respiratory infection and fever 37.6.

I'm really worried that something might happen to my baby because I'm sick and just wanted to know if anyone else has gone through something similar?

  • I had ear infections while pregnant with my son. The one that required antibiotics came with a nasty fever when I was 7 weeks. I kept the fever reasonable with water and compresses, occasional tylenol, and the doctor prescribed a category B antibiotic. The pregnancy was unfazed by it, and DS came out healthy at full term. Take care of yourself well and try to relax!

I came down with bronchitis and im only 6 weeks now the gave me an antibiotic stressing it was safe for the baby and an inhaler
  • I had a horrible cold that led to an ear/sinus infection and cough. I was prescribed amoxicillin which didnt really clear up my symptoms but helped with the ear pain. Meanwhile, the sickness spread through my whole family and I either got infected again or had a flare up. I used the Nettie Pot, took a few Benadryl and Claritin, and chugged water which seemed to work. I've been on antibiotics for all three of my pregnancies now and my two children are perfectly normal and healthy. Nine months is a long time and i'm sure a lot of pregnant woman get sick and have to take meds at some point. Try not to worry, the risks of something going wrong are very low. Hope you feel better soon.
