Anybody else battling a cold? (RANT)

For the past three days the struggle has been real. I am so terribly congested, blowing my nose constantly, scratchy throat, fever and chills, and the one thing I want to do more than anything is sleep. Of course, at this point, I'm so uncomfortable that even sleep is escaping me. I've been to the doctor and tested negative for strep, and I don't have an infection, so I've been combatting this with essential oils, Neti pot, and lots of fluids. Anyone have any other suggestions or advice? I'm hoping I can kick this soon!

  • Hot tea and honey got me through the cold I just had.  I ended up with an infection in my lymph node under my jaw from it so I had to take antibiotics.

  • I had a sinus infection a couple weeks ago and I was SUPER congested. The best relief I found was take a warm shower and just standing under the water for a while. It gave all the drainage a chance to go down instead of back and make and it helped a lot with the stuffiness. After I got out, I put some Vicks on my bare chest and just relaxed in bed propped up a little. Helped a lot!
  • I've been sick for over a week with this horrible cold. And have a sick 3 year old and fiancé on top of working 12 hour shifts at work. Is maternity leave here yet??
  • Fighting one off now. Benedryl, Benedryl, Benedryl for sleeping. I've been fighting it off during the day with cough drops, hot tea with honey, and tussin (it's the cvs brand).

  • I have bronchitis with terrible congestion and a nagging cough. No sleep for me this week. Also had pink eye in both eyes! I have to go back to work tomorrow and I'm dreading it. Hope you feel better soon!

  • Unfortunately I remember getting a cold in my first and third trimester with all my pregnancies. I haven't gotten one yet for this baby but still have 6 weeks left. I want to say with my last I got it 2 weeks before he was born. I just had to be thankful it was before he got here.
I remember reading about it in "what to expect when expecting" it's pretty typical in the first and last tri to get one.
I did hot baths, tea with honey & lemon, and remember sleeping in a recliner. We also got the Vicks vapor humidifier, that is a great investment for when kids get colds to!
  • Bad, bad congestion with no end in sight. I feel your pain!
  • Yup, I had one for the past 2 weeks. Tea with honey and lemon. My doctor told me to take tylenol cold and flu. I slept with a humidifier. Luckily, this week I only feel congested.
Hope you all ladies feel better.
  • Tylenol PM has helped me get sleep with the nasty head cold I've been battling.
  • Got one now with a sore throat that just won't go away. Try hot tea with agave nectar and tylenol for aches and pains. Feel better.
  • Hope all you ladies start to feel better.
  • I'm pretty sure I've some how bruised the inside of my torso from coughing so much. It now hurts specifically in one spot when I cough - where LO usually chills out at. Or maybe I've given myself a hernia. Ouch!

Anyone had something like this before?

I had something similar during 2nd tri. Doctor thought it was probably due to the ab muscles being stretched and then having to quickly contract to help with a cough. It went away after I was cough-free for a few days, so I assume she was correct.

  • DH and I both got a cold a couple of weeks ago that knocked the crap out of us! We pretty much lived on honey lemon tea and chicken noodle soup. For sore throat and chills, I recommend boiling some water, and draping a towel over your head and the pot to trap the steam. Bonus: it does great things for your skin!

Hi, I just want to say that I battled the most awful cold for 7 weeks. I tried everything and it would not go away. 2 weeks of amoxicillin, over the counter meds that were safe for baby, Claritin, i had a chest X-ray done and even saw an allergist cuz I thought I was allergic to my new dog. In the end, it was just a nasty cold that I couldn't shake cuz my body was working hard on keeping the baby healthy and lacking in the immune system department. Last week, my doctor got desperate and out me on a z pac and it worked!! The only thing that worked! I can smell again and taste food again, like I feel alive again! I really regret not asking for it sooner. Feel better soon!

  • Woke up in the middle of the night with a wicked Head cold :(
So much for getting any sleep
  • I am just getting over a bad sinus infection and the only thing that has really helped is benadryl. Benadryl helped dry up my congestion and helped me sleep.
  • I've been battling with cough & flu for a month now.. and what makes it worse is that now, my nose feels congested and my right ear blocked.. :( went to see a physician today and she prescribed me nasal spray but i read the prescription that its not safe for pregnant and lactating women consumption.. and now, my option is just to rub vicks on my chest and nose for a bit of relieve.. pls help if there's any other option as i dont want to rely on medication that are not safe for my baby..
  • I've been wondering what were your guys beginning symptoms bc I'm starting to get really congested n stuffed up and clogged and I'm wondering if it's the start of a cold or allergies bc of the changing seasons
  • Same here! I've been out of commission since Tuesday afternoon. Try a nedi pot and Benadryl at night (my ob's suggestion). I haven't wanted to take anything else
  • Neti pot, sleep, hot water with a TON of lemon (lemon is a disinfectant so it kills bacteria), get fresh air by going outside even for just 10 minutes. Cold compresses on your head to relieve sinus pressure.
  • Omg I'm completely knocked on my butt from this cold. My husband got it first and he was really stuffy and sneezy, then he started getting a cough. I got the cough first, so I was like I probably won't get as bad as him......... Yeah right. I called into work and I honestly can't even function. Coughing up green mucus, sneezing like crazy, terrible aches. My midwife recommended elderberry cough syrup that you can get at vitamin shoppe, but I doubt I will make the trip out there to get it. I've been taking baths, drinking echinacea tea with lots of honey, and chicken noodle soup. Glad to know I'm not alone..
  • Just caught a cold. Thought it was because some of the kids I work with are sick, but I just realized that I was sick like this the first trimester too. I've been drinking tea and Also Tylenol cold. I also take zyrtec for allergies but nothing is helping at all. Tmi but now I have to wear pads to work because I pee myself when I cough standing up. This is awful!!
