Maternity Jackets?

I know there have been several threads about where to find cute/affordable maternity clothes, but nothing that I know of has been specifically about outerwear. It's still fairly nice for the most part, but we had a couple of days with heavy rain this week, and I have no jackets that will accommodate my bump! We're heading into cooler weather here, and by November I will most likely need a midweight jacket, but I can't seem to find anything like what I'm looking for in maternity. I just want, like, a fleece- or sherpa-lined zip-up hoodie or something. Not french terry or jersey. Is that too much to ask? Anybody else looking for outerwear and finding the same results?

I got a couple of jackets on spring clearance in March when I first found out I was pregnant. I also recently got a puffy vest from Motherhood (always cold at work). Check out Old Navy and Gap?

I bought a north face a size up on sale with DS1. It actually came in really handy because I was able to wear him under it after he was born.

I plan to do the same as last time: My normal light weight rain jacket and an umbrella for when it's really raining hard was the best solution I found for rainy / not cold days. When I was really desperate or didn't want to bother with the umbrella I stole DH's rain coat which I could zip over the bump.

I have an awesome Pea coat that only has buttons on the chest that will accommodate my bump when it starts getting cold. Put a scarf on and keep gloves in the pocket and I'm good to go until the baby is here and it starts getting really cold- at which time I will fit back into my heavy snow jacket

I couldn't and still can't justify spending so much money on a coat I will only wear for two or less months...

Old Navy and Gap are my go-to stores, and no luck at the moment. Gap has two maternity outerwear options right now, and Old Navy has one. Two of those are jean jackets and the other is french terry.

ETA: the jacket that I normally use when it rains is actually my husband's, but the zipper is broken, so I can't zip it over the bump and it's awkward to try to pull it closed and keep it that way while I'm out in the rain trying to avoid puddles and whatnot. All of the heavier jackets I have are fitted, so they are a no-go with the bump, and they also don't have hoods.

I'm trying to avoid buying maternity coats if possible. I think wearing my regular coats open with a scarf (or big umbrella in the rain) should work.

I have a wool poncho type coat that I think will work perfectly! I figure if I need something heavier, I can just wear my Columbia and just not zip it... or just use DH's since that should zip up over my bump.

I'm going to look into coat inserts, you can use them for baby wearing afterward. I've seen them on etsy. There are also tutorials online for how to make one yourself. I don't think it'll be worth it to buy a coat to wear for a month before the baby is born.

I'm also trying to take into consideration the time it will take for my body to be closer to "normal" again. It's not going to happen overnight, after all, and we may have snow on the ground before that happens. I may just go the size up and unzipped route, I don't know...

That's exactly what I will do, since that's my normal anyway. I never really zip up my jackets. Most of them don't even have a hood now that I think about it. I usually just wear different colored motorcycle jackets. I just wish it would cool off enough to actually wear them. I'm jealous of any and everyone with cooler weather.

I found these, if your coat has the most common type of zipper that is the right length, it will fit. (The site explains how to tell what you have). I'm going to order one for my land's end squall parka. You can use them for baby wearing after pregnancy, which will be great for me since I'll be walking the dogs and might not want to break out the stroller every time.

Since we are on a pretty tight budget at the moment my plan is to just wear my DH's big jackets for as long as I can! Although my EDD is November 9th so I'm hoping it won't be too long that I'll need it...although I could probably just wear baby under his coats if need be (not saying he is huge or anything but men's cut coats seem to fit around Bump better than my lady coats!)

I bought a black zip up hoodie at motherhood maternity. I figure I can still wear it after baby. It may just be a little big.

I bought 2 coats on clearance from Motherhood maternity when I was pregnant with my daughter. Got them at the outlet. They usually have sale stuff online too.
I also have 2 hoodies from old navy that I love. And I wore my daughter in a carrier under them once she was born. I plan to do the same this time.
The other old navy costs are disappointing. I ordered a rain coat a few weeks ago and it wasn't maternity. It was plus sized and fit very weird.
I'm still looking for a rain coat. I might just go up a few sizes because my current one just stopped fitting.

Depending on how tight your coat is you could buy a fleece in a size (or two) up so it will zip and wear your coat over it. I hate wearing coats especially while driving but I wear sweatshirts/hoodies and fleece jackets all winter. I didn't own a winter coat until a few years ago. I live in IN it can get very cold here.

I was going to say maybe look in the dudes section. I found my husband a nice soft (lined) hoodie last year- I believe from Gap (or Target? Or maybe it was from Costco?) that is really comfy and would be a good option for zipping the bump up in!

I've started wearing my husband's jackets on days when they are needed (we live near Canada). I agree with a few other ladies, I'd rather not spend money on something I'd wear for less than 6 weeks. I'd rather buy nursing clothes!
