zantac?

Is it safe to take zantac 150 daily? My doctor said it was fine but my heartburn is so bad that I have to take it daily to get relief. Tums does not help. Anyone else safely take  this daily through their pregnancy?

Re: zantac?

  • I take it daily at my dr's direction otherwise my acid reflux is so bad I can't sleep. Mine is the 150, and no tums doesn't help unfortunately :(

  • Mine switched me to nexium because of safety concerns. But I did take it for awhile.
  • I have been taking Pepcid and tums. Pepcid is in the same class as Zantac.
  • Yes I had horrible heartburn throughout my second pregnancy and rather than prescribing me something, he told me to take a Zantac daily. He said it was just as effective as a prescription and just as safe. I haven't had to use anything stronger than tums this pregnancy yet, but I did take it throughout my entire pregnancy last-time with no issues.

  • My doctor is fine with me taking Zantac. :D
  • I remember taking it pretty regularly during my first pregnancy. It helped so much!

  • I took Pepcid as well. Tums were good for calcium but did absolutely nothing for reflux.
  • I got some zantac although haven't used much. Sleeping more upright on extra pillows can help with reflux. Tums tasted nice but only helped sometimes, usually when I took a few.
  • Zantac, Prevacid and Nexium are all pregnancy category B drugs. Of course talking to your doc about it is always your best bet. They have studies and info we don't. I take Nexium.
  • My dr just prescribed it to take daily at my appointment yesterday.

It's category b. Category a is "completely" safe and category c is "benefits outweigh risks" I would take it if you were like me especially when it got so bad, I was choking on the reflux and my throat felt like one giant fire ball every night :( thankfully, that was only pregnancy #2.

With #3 I also used a special necklace my mil bought me. A type of Hazelwood beads.

Edited because I thought I fixed it already. Hazelwood used to be wooden.

I've taken it for both my first and this pregnancy. My doctor okayed it both times, different doctors each pregnancy. I took it way more the first pregnancy though. I don't like milk (hate it), but didn't have Zantac the last couple nights, and tried that and it actually helped a lot.

Edited because I forgot a word.
  • I take Zantac 150 as needed and have been for years. My heartburn has significantly decreased though since I'm eating better though so I'm not taking it as frequently as I did in the past. I do take it before eating certain meals that I know will flare it up.

I bought Pepcid but my heartburn wasn't bad enough to warrant me taking a pill every day so when my doctor told me Zantac 150 was fine, i heard the angels singing
  • It's best to discuss safe dosage with your doctor. For we are just random people on the internet and know nothing about your health or situation.
