April 2016 Moms

I saw 2 sacs on my ultrasound!

Long story short, I had went to the ER Monday for spotting. I had started spotting Sunday night and it was very scant and light pink. By Monday morning i was still spotting and it was a tad bit heavier. I had an u/s done and noticed 2 sacs on the screen. The tech said nothing about the second sac. Maybe because there was no baby in it. She never measured the 2nd sac or anything. However, the baby was doing fine, heart rate was 173, measured accordingly to gestational age, etc. Its been on my mind since Monday that maybe I was pregnant with twins and that maybe I lost the other twin...I don't know. My ultrasound report stated "1+ fetuses" and I am beyond curious, nervous and anxious. Cannot wait to see my ob/gym soon. Has anyone had similar experience?

  • I surprised they didn't clarify anything. Can you call the OB and ask them more about your ultrasound?

  • When is your next OB appointment?  I would probably call and at least have a conversation with the nurses about it ahead of the appointment; perhaps your OB will want to see you sooner.
  • If you are due in April, which I'm assuming since it's the April board (or near it), you'd be at least 8 weeks. If there was anything in the second sac to be concerned about, I'm sure they would have mentioned it. Somees things look like sacs but aren't. Or a second sac develops but nothing ever develops. By now, if there was something to see, it would be there. You can always call and ask though.

  • It's called vanishing twin syndrom. It happens prior to the fetus developing or after. Prior is less risky for healthy baby. Doctor was not concern and assured me I would be ok.
  • It could have been an sch. They look like empty sacs. It could explain bleeding as well.
  • How do you know it was a sac? Like pp said, it could have been a hematoma, or even your bladder.
  • Our dating Ultrasound found a second sac but no baby. They explained 2 eggs were probably fertilized, but one of the babies didn't develop. They said the sac should dissolve on its own.

  • Yeah I'm also curious how you know it was a sac. I've had so many ultrasounds (from first pregnant) and still have no idea what I'm looking at most of the time.

  • I'm confused why you didn't ask the ultrasound tech when they were doing the ultrasound?
