Club foot - anyone with experience or advice?

Had my A/S this morning and everything looked great with baby and we're still team green.

There's one issue, however. Baby has a club foot.

Apparently it is usually 100% treatable and can be fixed with no trace that the child even had the deformity. Of course, we all want our babies to be perfect and it's emotional hearing something is wrong. But I have perspective that things could be much worse and this is just a bump in the road that will leave us with a few hills to climb.

I have another ultrasound in about a week and a half to have a specialist take a look and let us know more, but am interested in any information or advice from anyone with experience.

Re: Club foot - anyone with experience or advice?

  • My little cousin was born with both of her feet that way. She just had to wear braces. She's now 7 and walks perfectly. No issues

  • My sister was born with both club feet and she had surgery as a baby and then wore braces for about a year and she's fine now. You would never know she had any issues. She's 11 now. I'm hoping it'll be a simple fix for you and you won't run into any more bumps In the road!
  • Neither experience or advice here but just keeping my fingers crossed for you that it's like PPs said and it's a quick treatment and no long term effects :)
  • One of my students has two club feet. She's a recent immigrant, and had no treatment until she arrived her at age 5. She wore braces for two years, and new you'd never know. I'm not sure if she had surgery too, but I assume she did.

  • My husband had a club foot. He had surgery when he was less than one for correction. His calf is narrower than the other leg and if he's been doing a lot of walking sometimes he limps a little but it doesn't stop him doing anything. He played basketball and soccer in Highschool.
He does have early arthritis in it now, but since moving away from AK it aches much less these days.
  • @kris10mac no problem Hun. You're very welcome. I wish you the best.
