Avent, Dr. Brown, and... Tommie tippee?

Hi FTM and planning to breastfeed but have no clue which one I have an Avent and DrBrown already but don't know which one to get more of tried researchingAnd well got negative reviews on both and Tommie tippee brand thrown into it so any help or suggestions are highly appreciated

I've hear that with bottles it really depends on baby which brand works best...I've already received a few different brand bottle packs and just plan to open one brand and try it out and if baby likes it fine then I'll return the other ones.

I'm a ftm, and I registered for a bout 6 bottles of different brands to test them out when baby gets here. From there, whichever baby likes, I will get more of. The baby, to my research, will be the final say. So it is usually ill advised to purchase a lot of bottles until you know what your baby will actually take to.

It's going to be up to the baby and what they like. Don't stock up on too many bottles right now. Although the 3 brands you named are probably some of the best out there!

With my first i planned on breast feeding so i went with breastflow bottles. When he wouldnt latch and my milk didnt come in we went with dr. Browns. My second didnt like dr. Browns and was extremely colicky so we used playtex drop in bottles. Then once he grew out of the colic we switched to avent. The avent seem to leak sometimes though. This time i bought mam bottles but who knows what this little one will like. It really is trial and error. However if you know you are gonna breast feed u would pick a bottle that is most natural feeling for baby.

All my babies have liked Dr. Browns. I have tried many bottles through the years but Dr. Browns were always the preferred bottle. I tried Avent, Playtex Nursers, even a bottle that looked like a boob :-) But I agree, most babies have a preference and will let you know.

Third time mom and I've used dr brown brand bottles with my other 2 children. They fit the Medela pumps great and my babies never had an issue

If you plan to BF and want to avoid "nipple confusion," use the slowest flow possible nipple. Dr. Browns has a premie nipple that drips very slowly. Level 1 for Dr. Browns is also a very slow flow nipple. If you have a few brands to compare at your house right now fill them with water and turn it upside down over the sink. Then start with the bottle with the slowest drip nipple when you introduce a bottle to your baby (especially important if the baby is very young).

I used Dr. Browns because it was recommended by my lactation consultant and never really tried and other brands. My son was fine with it.

If you're planning on breastfeeding I would buy what fits your pump. With my first I planned on breast feeding and bought all Tommie tippie. Well it didn't go well and we went to formula and tommy tippie sucked for her and she couldn't use it. I bought avent. With my second I ebf for the longest time then pumped when I went back to work for 1-2 bottles a day I pumped into the bottle I sent her to daycare with and just ended up buying nipples for those and never used all the avent bottles for her lol especially since my medela pump came with the special ice pack and cooler that fit their bottles so much easier

Ultimately it comes down to baby but you can look at features for yourself too. Whether a wider or narrower bottle is more comfortable or how easy it is to clean. We'd gotten a free Dr browns bottle to try and hubby and I neither one liked having to clean an extra part with the valve. It doesn't seem like much but adds up with multiple bottles. We tried it anyway and found early on DS did better with wider nipples. Tommie yippee ended up working the best at the time but we've gone through other brands as he grew.

There's also a matter of cost. There are some brands I would love to try but really can't justify spending $20 per bottle. If you have a couple different brands already, wait and see how baby does with those. You can try something else if they don't seem right or buy more of what you have if they work out well.

The rep at buy buy baby told us that the Tommie Tippee and one named after a boob (joob boob maybe?) were the best and most common. We also registered for avent bc my baby sister liked those as a baby and we never had an issue.

But in the end, I'm sure we'll be returning something the baby won't use haha

We tried Avent, Playtex, Como Tomo and Dr. Brown. Only ones that my daughter took to was Dr. Brown. She was a premie too so those were perfect for her and they are also good for a baby with reflux (the annoying multiple parts help with the reflux).

I registered for the Avent glass ones. I don't like drinking from plastic so I prefer not to have baby drink from plastic if it's possible. I know the glass bottles are heavy so we will see

I used the MAM anti-colic bottles as advised by my MW and later approved by my son's speech therapist. They are carried at BRU & Walmart. They have a no leak rubber vent on the bottom and self-contain sterilize in the microwave. My son wouldn't take the playtex drop-ins or Tommie tippee.

FTM here & I agree that I've heard its really up to baby which bottle they like, but I registered for the kinde system. It is pricey, but I like that you pump into the same bag that you can freeze & thaw & put into the bottle. We don't have a dishwasher, so I'm not looking forward to hand washing bottles a lot. I'll only be working part time teaching one class so we won't need it too much. I'd also heard the kinde system helped prevent gas. All the reviews are great online, only negatives are price & some people feel the measurements are off on the bag.

I am a FTM. So, I am sure my baby will decide which bottles he prefers but I actually bought the brand called Latch. I plan to breastfeed and hear their slow flowing nipples were the closes bottles to the actual nipple, so I decided I'll give these a try first.

I have a some Tommee Tippee, Mam ant-colic, Dr. Brown's natural flow and Munchkin Latch. Ideally I'll introduce the bottle and start pumping when he is around 8 weeks old, so if he likes one of those I can buy more of them and put up the rest.
Also, if your baby won't take a bottle that is compatible with the Medela, Gerber bottles fit and are very cheap. Pump into those and refrigerate until ready to use or pour into bag or other container to freeze.

Joovy boob! I have looked into those and as a STM they are my top choice. We are also only using glass and they offer sturdy glass bottles. They are a bit pricy, but I couldn't beat the research I did and recommendations I got were all awesome! My first child had bad reflux and we found the the playtex drop ins were a god send for her plus they are super easy to clean and she took the nipple very well! Also cheap!

When my son was 4 weeks old I pumped a bottle, and handed it to my hubby and then I did later just to see. He latched and never had an issue switching between me and bottle.. I used Tommee Tippee! I loved them!!!!! I've heard great things about Dr browns too, and have a friend who breast feeds and she uses Dr browns. Her daughter never took to tommee's. Its all on the baby. I'd say you will have to test the waters! Good luck

I have zero desire to clean the Dr. Brown's. It looks like a pain in the ass and other friends who have used them confirm that it is. Everything I've heard/read about Avent looks like they're a great options so we registered for a starter kit to see how it goes.

Avent is pretty easy: bottle, nipple, and ring that connects the two. That's it. Well, there is a lid, too. I sure hope this LO likes them!

check out the Kiind system too. The bottles are suppose to be one of the best for switching back and forth from boob to bottle! Its what Im going to be using and I havent found many negative reviews. You can find them at Target, BabiesUs, Amazon, & Thier Website!

If you do choose to use them, check thier facebook, about a month ago I got a sample set from them (came with a breast pump attachment and couple twist bags), but it had a 50$ off coupon with it, so Im able to get the full system, which has bottles, bags, a bottle warmer, breastmilk storage system, and some other stuff, and everything for like 50$. Even if you end up not liking their bottles, the bottle warmer itself is worth like 60$ when bought alone.

I had heard that the Medela bottles weren't good because they would cause gas, but when my son refused to nurse they were all I had. I pumped exclusively for him for 9 months and we only used the Medela bottles with no problems. They were easy to clean fit my pump.

As PP have said baby will decide in most cases. I plan to BF but plan on trying Dr Brown and Avent first. I know that Dr Brown is a PIA to clean but they are popular because the extra parts make a difference with reflux or gas...so if that is a problem and Dr Brown solves it, cleaning a fussy bottle will be easier than dealing with an uncomfortable baby.
