I'm currently planning on taking a vacation to the beach in a few weeks and my LO will be 4 months. Any ladies have any recommendations on things to bring to the actual beach to keep him entertained or ideas for napping?
Mine sleeps in the ergo baby at the beach. Wave sounds make for easy snoozing. Also those beach half-tents are really nice as a napping zone to protect from wind and sun. And get a good sun hat. Our babe loves putting her feet in the sand (hands too but that creates some other issues). The texture is pretty crazy for them. I don't think you'll need much entertainment. A toy or two should be fine since there's so much new stuff for them to look at. Have fun!
We love our infant UV tent & use it all the time. I think it was $40 or so on Amazon. I also recommend a sun hat, sunblock, water wipes (or wash cloths and water) for wiping hands, faces, etcetera. Someone else on here mentioned bringing the plastic baby bathtub to the beach and filling up with water so LO could periodically cool off & have some water fun. I haven't tried it but thoughr it sounded intriguing.
We went last month and it was great. I highly recommend having a very large umbrella/ tent that you can sit under with your baby. I sat with her while my DH played with our older kids. I also had the Ergo so I could go put my feet in and still have her covered.
Investing in another wrap or carrier that you can take lo in the water with might be good as well - an inexpensive mei tei type. Obviously just wading to whatever depth, but baby might like getting some waves and water that way too.
I think less is better - unless you have a lot of helping hands! Carrying baby and walking through the sand with all your stuff, then trying to lay out the towel and set up the umbrella... It's a lot more work than I had anticipated. I brought a travel bassinet with a towel for him and a patio pillow to prop him up. I put sunscreen on him right before I got out of the car too. He didn't need toys since he can't play in the sand yet. The sounds of the ocean, wind and other children playing were distracting enough. I just walked with him on the beach in a little hat and put his toes in the water. He loved it! Then he fell asleep in my arms walking up and down the coast.
We used our stroller constantly! And like what someone else said, less is better. Everything gets so sandy. We tried the umbrella but it kept blowing away.
