3d ultrasound...baby is in 81st percentile concerned about Gestational Diabetes

So we had our 3d ultrasound yesterday so we could see our little girls facial features but along with getting the images they estimated her weight.

 

I am 27 weeks today and she weighs about 2lbs 12 oz and her femur measured in the 29th week range so overall they estimated her to be about 28.5 to 29 weeks size. The ultrasound tech then made a comment about how she would be surprised if I passed the blood glucose test. She didn't say it to be mean or cause me to worry but now of course I am worrying. Part of me thinks that she is just a big baby since her femur and humorus measured long...I think I would be more worried if her weight was high but the rest of her measurements were in the 26 week range.

Have any of you had a similar experience where your little one measured big but you did not have gestational diabetes. I go for my glucose test on October 6th. I am a FTM and it seems like I always have new things to worry about!

    Did you go to a boutique for the 3D ultrasound? Their measurements aren't always reliable. Also, big babies don't mean GD. Some ladies just grow them bigger than others.

    my 3d ultrasound was elective but it was done at my OB's office by the same girl who did my 20 week anatomy scan. She used the 2d ultrasound to get the measurements and did the same measurements that she did in the 20 week ultrasound. My 20 week ultrasound showed that our little one was right in the average range for being 20 weeks so in 6 weeks she was grown to two weeks bigger than average.

    oh yea I should also note that my husband and I were both about 7lb 8 oz when we were born.

    She shouldn't have said anything if she is not your doctor! Just wait and see and try not to worry! Like PP said, it could mean he's just big! My mom did not have GD, but my brothers came out at 10.5 and 11.5 pounds! Sometimes babies are big! Take it one step at a time!!

    At 28 weeks my lo was measuring 2lbs 14 oz which I was told is on the bigger side. I didn't pass my gd hour test. Last pregnancy I had a big baby without having gd. I go for my 3 hr tomorrow so we shall see how it goes.

    Try not to worry about one lady's opinion. I weighed 6lbs and my husband was 8 lbs when we were born and our ds was 9lbs 6oz.

    My baby was in the 90th percentile at 25 weeks - and I passed the GD test with flying colours. Try not to panic!

    From what I've been told, GD can cause babies to get bigger than they normally would, but most of that extra weight is in their bellies. I have GD, and my first growth scan is next week. It is my understanding that they will mostly be concerned with whether the baby's belly is in proportion with her head. I'm not a medical expert, and really your ultrasound tech probably isn't an expert in GD babies either. She really shouldn't have said anything to you! I know it's easier said than done, but don't worry about it until you have your test results. 

    Also, my SIL never had GD, but all 4 of her babies were close to or just over 10lbs. Some people just have big babies!

    Mine measured in the 90th percentile this past week and I have my GD test tomorrow, so we will see.

    I'm not too worried, I was a 10+ lb baby and all my mom's babies were over 9lbs at birth and she never had GD. I have suspected my entire pregnancy they might be a little off on my due date anyway due to timing, but they're the experts, not me. I think some babies are just big.

    I had a growth ultrasound at 28 weeks, baby was measuring two weeks ahead based on size - 30 weeks and around 3 lbs. I passed the glucose test and do not have GD. This is my third baby and my first two were on the small end. If anything, my doctor was happy that the baby was measuring ahead and growing well.

    Big babies do not mean GD. My son was 9 lbs 9 oz and measured big the whole pregnancy.

    I had a 3d scan at 27w 5d.. The sonographer estimated from measurement that my LO was 2Ib 10... I then went seeing the midwife the week after and she stated my belly measured 4 weeks ahead.. I went for a growth scan at 29w4d.. Everything looking perfectly normal, approx weight 3Ib 4oz.. And was right in the middle of the chart.. :)
    Try not to worry, also the weights are only estimates and can be slightly off..

    I wouldn't worry. They sent me 4x for the glucose test with bub #1! I just had a big beautiful 10lb healthy baby. On the flip side, it's good to get checked so both you and babies health Is watched. Good luck!

    I had this same situation at my 24 weeks appointment my LO was in the 77th percentile and I just did my test, passed with no problem! My dr told me some people just make big babies. Within you luck!!

    With my first, he measured on the big side and was 9 lbs 11 ounces when born and I gained like 50 pounds. I did not have GD, sometimes babies are just big lol my doctor is concerned about another big baby but again I don't have GD. She even told me she'd do a little dance if I went naturally at 37 weeks

    My son consistently measured ahead even though I passed the 2hr glucose test (what my previous office gave as standard) and several more finger prick sugar tests. He was born at 40+4 in the 99th for height and 96th for weight.

    My twins are currently in the 80th percentile at 30 weeks. Some people create bigger babies, try not to worry about something that hasn't happened yet.

    I think you are jumping to conclusions and causing yourself undue stress. Coming from someone who was diagnosed with GD, yes it sucks but you will either have it or you won't. Pondering about whether or not you might have it isn't helping you or baby. Being diagnosed as early as possibly is best for you and baby that way you can be treated ASAP. I would suggest if you are concerned try and get your appointment bumped up. Good luck!
