Babbling/cooing

So my LO has never been "talkative." At 19 weeks old, she only really babbles and sometimes coos for about 5 minutes total a day with the majority of it being in the morning. Is this normal? The pediatrician thinks it's odd but says that she may just be introverted. She passed her hearing test. I'm getting more and more worried about this as she doesn't seem to be improving.

Re: Babbling/cooing

  • My LO does it at 3am ha! She can be quiet all day then come alive in the evening. I hadn't about it until now. Maybe spend time each day talking/singing etc

  • Yeah we do a TON of talking/singing and we are also doing early intervention therapy. At the end of the day, it might just be indicative of other problems and that is what has me concerned...

How old is your LO? Is the talking daily? Mine will coo for some time for a couple days and then stop talking for a week. She might coo for a few seconds another day and then be completely silent for another week.
  • She's 19 weeks. She doesn't do it constantly all day, but will do if wakes at night/morning, then just randomly throughout day & especially a lot around 5-6pm she goes on & on & on.
  • She doesn't tend to do it around people she doesn't know. I take her to baby classes 3x per week & she never does it there, but most babies at the class are the same
  • Mine seems to wait until she has something to 'say' before she makes a lot of noise, but she's very serious about it when it's time to tell me something.  Or her stuffed giraffe.  So, I'd say she babbles every day, but maybe only five minutes.  Some days she is chattier than others.  I don't worry, because she is interacting and smiling with people she knows, and her hearing is fine.
