Waking Up Thirsty?!

Recently for I guess the past couple months I've been getting up four or 5 times a night to get something to drink. I wake up craving something to drink. I can drink a gallon of water just from my night trips to the fridge. Is this regular I'm a ftm and haven't really heard anything about constantly being parched!

Re: Waking Up Thirsty?!

  • Same here! I stopped drinking water throughout the night though because I didn't sleep well after having to get up to pee so much.

  • Normal. I keep a 1 liter mug by my bed and drink when I get up to use the bathroom. It's gone by morning. You need more water during pregnancy and I bet you are snoring (the extra baby weight seems to make me snore anyway).
  • I also keep a jug of water by my bed every time I pee I drink some. Sucks because it makes me pee more. It's a never ending cycle.
  • I swear I wake up every night needing ice cold water. It tastes so good in the middle of the night. Like I have never had it before or can't get enough. Haha
  • Same! I just can't drink enough.
  • Me too!! I wake up having to pee and dying of thirst
  • I cant go to bed without a huge glass of ice water... lots of ice! Every time I get up to go to the bathroom I have to have a drink, I try to only take a sip but sometimes it tastes so good I can't help it! Ice water tastes like heaven in the evenings and at night!
  • Are you drinking enough water during the day? I usually drink water at night, but find that I drink much more at night if I haven't had enough during the day.
  • Craving ice water so bad over here! Just can't seem to get enough of it.
  • Yes! I am always thirsty lately, but especially in the middle of the night. I try not to drink in the middle of the night to reduce bathroom visits, but if I must have something to drink or die, I pour myself a small glass of milk. I like my sleep.
  • I asked my doctor about this awhile back after going through the same thing. He assured me it's totally normal and that our babies are like little sponges right now. They need us to drink a lot of water and our bodies need it to ease all the changes.
  • I'm having the opposite problem right now. I'm struggling to drink enough water because I'm NOT thirsty! I'm worried about dehydration, so I have to keep reminding myself to drink more. :/

I have been waking up SOO hungry, though! Doesn't matter if I snack throughout the day & eat right before bed- I'll still wake up feeling like my stomach is about to eat itself!

  • I drink a lot of water during the day but still need lots of water on my bedside table. I'm sure I wake up almost every hour with a very dry mouth. I'm also a pregnant snorer due to the extra weight and I don't know about any of you ladies but I wake up in a giant pile of my own drool all night long, seriously it is gross. I didn't know it was possible to drool that much!
  • I'm with you @carrieoct15! I pretty much have to log all the water I'm drinking in order to remind myself to drink and it's a struggle to make it to 64oz, and I'm sure I should be drinking more than that. But I also wake up starving in the middle of the night, last night I got up and ate leftover fried rice, it was amazing!!
  • This started happening towards the end of my first pregnancy also, I got to the point where my body was just a machine. I would chug ice water all night and pee like 6 times. Luckily our room is close to the bathroom, sometimes I feel like i'm not even awake...just drifting back and forth to the bathroom lol

  • I go up to bed every night with my camelbak and a frozen bottle of water so I have cold water in the middle of thr night. They are both gone before I get up for the day so I always end up going downstairs to refill then go back to sleep. Worse things could happen than being extra thirsty!
  • Yup!  I wake up multiple time so thirsty!  For me, it's because I have wicked bad pregnancy congestion.  So even if I go to bed feeling alright, after a few hours my nose is so stuffed up and I have been mouth-breathing all night (ew, creepy!).  I have terrible dry mouth in the morning that seems to take forever to get rid of.  In addition to trying to remember to drink tons of water during the day, I have been chewing gum every once in awhile (usually not a gum person).  Might not help with the actual thirst, but gets saliva production up so the feeling isn't as intense.
