FTM Feeding Question

My little boy has literally eaten all afternoon. He's had breast milk and some formula when I had nothing left. The last time he ate was just before 7pm. He's been awake while we went to Walmart around 730 and has been sleeping since about 815 when we got home. He hasn't woken up to feed yet and it's almost 940. Should I worry? Or give him another hour maybe?

Also if he doesn't wake up to feed do I bother waking him at all? He's only 6 days old so I'm a little lost. He was born at 10 pounds 3 ounces and only lost 5 ounces before we left hospital. He's already back up 2 ounces since leaving the hospital.

Thanks ladies.

Re: FTM Feeding Question

  • I would confirm with your pediatrician, but I woke my son after 3 hours for the first couple of weeks. He's almost 6 weeks now and up 2+ pounds since birth so I'm letting him sleep.

  • Yup I agree - even if your breasts feel empty or you're not expressing anything keep baby at the breast to boost supply. Baby should be eating every 2-3 hours during day. I'd wake him and offer the breast now and then hopefully he'll give you a long stretch of sleep when you're ready for bed.

Thanks ladies. He did wake up and had some breast milk. Then tonight he slept from midnight until 430! Breast feeding him again now :)
