Contractions but not dilated!?

This morning I had my doctors appointment, and had a internal exam, doc said I was dilated yet, I'm 40&4 days. I've been having contractions every half hour since this afternoon, and had my bloody show lastnight At midnight. Could I be in labour even tho I'm not dilated ?

    Plus they have been getting more painful, painful in my back and abdomen but mainly in my lower back..

    You are probably in prelabor or early labor.  These kind of contractions are the ones that will start your cervix changing and bringing baby down.  If they are getting closer together, longer, and stronger, then it's probably a good sign that your baby is on his/her way. This stage can last awhile or even start and stop, so do what you can to try to rest and relax for now.
