July 2015 Moms

Well tomorrow is the day...

I go back to work tomorrow. I am so nervous and sad. My hubby and I will work opposite shifts with opposite days off so one of us will always be with LO. I am happy for this but it means we will always be apart and be alone with LO when we have her. I am really upset about this change as I haven't had to work this shift in a year since I found out I was pregnant. My work is not a place for easing into things or being upset. I work in a dangerous and stressful environment and can't show any signs of emotional distress. I was wondering how the rest of you mommies handled going back to work. How long did it take to get back in the groove and do you have any advice?

Re: Well tomorrow is the day...

  • I'm not back yet but with my first I just took it one day at a time and I'm not going to lie...the first few months were hard but you get used to it. Maybe you will be so busy at work that you don't have time to think about it??

  • I go back on the 29th and I am dreading it! Good luck!
  • Went back this week, it was hard but felt good to be back.
  • It's hard being away from my son but each day it gets easier because I'm realizing more and more that I'm doing a good thing for him by working. I'm lucky that my husband is able to use parental leave for several more months and after that, our son will be staying at his parents and mine, alternating weeks.
Just know you are doing an amazing and selfless thing for your child and ask your husband for emotional support.
I see that you posted this a few days ago so I hope the first few days went well!
  • I went back last week.... it was hard but also nice to be back. I work in healthcare and enjoy helping others.
Also LO is with Daddy, he get s break from work for a while so that made it a lot easier.
  • Today is my second day at work and so far it has been endurable. What I noticed is I am a lot calmer and not get so wrapped up with issues and problems at work than I was before I delivered. I suppose as my priority is now all about LO, I cannot be bothered to get stressed out at work. Hopefully it stays this way and boss doesn't recognize I don't care about work as much anymore lol.
  • @thocon84 I'm hoping that's what happens when I go back! I'm a teacher and literally could work all day and night (and have in the past), but I simply refuse to do that now..I feel like I'll be letting my students down, but I definitely have a new set of priorities now.
  • @jmucc421 Exactly what you said!!
