So I was putting babies clothes away in his drawers and I can't believe how much he has (mostly 0-3 mo.)
Do you ladies have a way of keeping track of what you have/what you need? I'm confident in the small sizes, but I know I'm going to need bigger 6+. Also, it will be warm here by April so I'm thinking I will need summer clothes!
Re: Keeping track of baby clothes
We aren't really keeping track, just organizing in the closet. Have you had your shower yet? This is the first girl in the family since I was born so we are expecting tons and tons of clothes. It might be best to wait until then just in case you are gifted a bunch of 6+ clothes!
Great point about babies growing. I guess my main concern is that it will get warm and he will only have cold weather clothes, but I like to shop, and he can get away with just a little onsie (of which I have many in many different sizes)
I like having enough clothes for my kids that I only have to do laundry once a week. If I have about 10 outfits in each size, I'm usually good. (We usually have waaaay more than this at any given time because my in-laws love to shop! But 5-10 generally covers the bare essentials.) If you want to stock up a bit ahead, I would suggest aiming for 5-10 (in each size) of each of the basics....onesies, sleepers, pants/shorts, etc. and add to that as your LO grows and the seasons require.
I also found it usually took until about their 2nd birthday before I was able to predict their growth spurts accurately enough to buy for the year ahead. (I think that's why they size clothes by year instead of months when you get to 18-24 months and 2T....they start staying in the same size for about a year at that age.)

Also, everything over 0-3 months/basics through 6 months that will fit no matter what still have the tags attached so just in case something doesn't fit I can exchange for store credit (already checked return policies). Honestly, I'm a huge couponer and wait for amazing sales so even if some things didn't fit I wouldn't really care and would love to donate something brand new to the local battered women's shelter.
Hanging things up once we installed a custom closet system in our LO's room really helped me identify gaps in what I still needed. She also has an adult-size dresser from PBK with a changing table topper that detaches so she can use that during her whole childhood. Once I lined it with cute contact paper and out in different organizers her six full size drawers have: diapering back-up essentials of what's already on opposite side of her changing pad, receiving blankets/stroller blankets/burp cloths/bibs/washcloths, extra mattress pads/sheets/changing pads, swaddlers/sleeping sacks/easy swaddlers, socks/newborn scratch preventing mittens, and one empty drawer. Closet also has tons of yet to be unused shelving and 6 10 x 10 fabric bins.
My SIL who has 2 under 3 recommended hanging everything up by size with organizers because it's easy to miss that you have something if it's in the bottom of a drawer. If drawers are your only option I'd put in dividers to help keep things neat then organize them by size (same things for bins under the bed, etc).
I love to do laundry but feel like I have enough to avoid doing LO's clothes more often than once of twice a week (I do laundry for DH and myself every 2 days because I divide his work clothes, our dark/colors, our whites, cleaning towels/bath mats, and bath towels/bedding). LO's clothes, bedding, etc will all be washed by themselves since I prefer a different detergent for the adults and like to use gain flings and Downy unstoppables in our things and will wash anything needing extra sanitizing due to LO's accidents, etc alone.
I like to organize and am a little OCD if you can't tell >:D<
