Can you please help me stop my anxiety spiral?

Ugh, I am so sorry ladies but I'm having like a ridiculous amount of anxiety this morning.  I'm a FTM, 21 weeks and 3 days and last night I exercised a bit more strenuously than I have since about week 6.  I've been trying to build up my post first tri nausea workouts from gentle walks around the neighborhood to more moderately intense 30 min elliptical workouts.  My dr says this is all fine.  But last night when I did the elliptical for the first time in ages, it felt like it was super jostling to the baby.  She was moving around a ton after the exercise and then a little bit at night but then this morning I haven't felt her move at all yet.  (This is normal - she doesn't always move around a ton in the am.)  I also had a brief sharp pain (like round ligament pain) when I rolled over in bed before getting up.

But now I'm sitting here freaked out that my 15 min workout and one tiny sharp round ligament-esque pain + no movement yet this morning means that something is terribly wrong with the baby.  I know, like I logically KNOW, this is insane and I do not want to call my doctor and say I am concerned because I went on an elliptical for 15 min and had one second of sharp pain.  I'm having no cramping, no spotting and I haven't had any other pain since that brief one when I rolled over in bed this morning.  Please tell me I'm being silly and not to worry!  I think this must be hormones because I have never been a panic prone person and I am freaking out.

Thanks in advance, ladies!  I know this is ridiculous and annoying, I'm sorry!

  • You are being silly. Try to relax. Elliptical and bike make my stomach feel weird so I stopped doing them, but baby has always been fine after. I always have sharp pains.

  • Thank you!  I literally needed just one person to tell me to tell me I'm being insane.  :)  Taking a deep breath and telling my hormones to shut up right now!
  • This all sounds like very normal stuff. No cramping, no spotting- you're all good! Relax mama.
  • Same boat here. 22w+3d. At a conference for work and was on my feet for hours the past two days. Baby girl was moving non stop for hours last night and I was dealing with some side pain and extra discharge. I barely felt movement today so of course I started worrying. But I was able to lay down in between sessions and felt her moving so I had a talk with myself to settle down. Let's both make a promise to relax! Anxiety isn't good for us or our babies. :)
  • Honestly I know you said you don't want to bother your doc, but that's what they're paid for- to take care of you both physically and mentally. If a 5 minute phone call from doc would help you to relax, I say do it! I bugged my doc's 24hr call line ALL the time and the nurses would always share a laugh with me about how silly I was being, but they were never rude or condescending and completely understood that as a FTM (or even second or third) you always worry and have questions. I'm sure you're fine, but I know how anxiety can completely destroy and consume your day. If it would help to call, I say call!
  • I'm saying this to you because I need to say this to myself (I'm currently panicking over trying to figure out if the "wet stuff" in my underwear is amniotic fluid or pee).
CHILL OUT. Take a bubble bath and treat yo self to a massive krispy Kreme hot and ready and a glass of milk.
I went ahead and called my doctors office and had my appointment moved up a week just so I can have peace of mind.
  • Thanks so much ladies - and sending calming thoughts to you guys who are feeling anxiety today too!  And @emott13 you are totally right - I shouldn't be concerned about bothering my dr's office, but luckily I've been feeling her move around a ton the last couple of hours, so my anxiety has returned to normal levels.  :)  But if anything comes up in the future, you're right, I'll feel so much better if I just call and get told by a medical professional that I'm officially being a worrywart.  ;)
  • Drink some orange juice or something sugary and lay down for a while. That usually gets em going.

  • I can totally relate. Being pregnant makes you a paranoid worrier. I worry when I get BH. I worry that my discharge could possibly be amniotic fluid. I worry that LO isn't moving enough. It's tiresome. Just know that you're not alone and that your body knows what it's doing.
  • I hear you, girl. Anxious about everything! Just know in your heart that some aches and pains after a workout are the norm now; our bodies are way different. Baby is fine, she is in an air pocket inside of a water tank.
Try to focus on other stuff and rest. You're doing it all well, Mama!
  • Babies sleep! They sleep a lot. They don't have much else going on in there...
  • They also sleep mostly during the day and are wild and active at night when you relax. It's probable that your baby started having its own exercise party after you finished yours and relaxed. Then in the morning it was sleeping. I'm sure everything is fine.

I suffer from spiral anxiety so I get you, but for some reason this whole pregnancy thing has me very calm. I just trust my body to do what it is designed for. Maybe if it makes you feel better stick to walking or a treadmill instead of an elliptical. Also swimming is the best when pregnant.
