Re: My Breast Friend or Boppy?

  • I had a Boppy but never used it. I found it easier to nurse without it. I felt like it put her too far up and she couldn't reach my boob! I know lots of people that used it all the time though, so I think it is individual preference.

  • I just used the throw pillows on the couch to prop DD for the football hold when she was a newborn. After we got used to BFing (a couple weeks) we didn't need a pillow at all.
Maybe check when you tour your birth center to see if the LC has any you and LO can try out while you're there if you can't decide.
  • If I had to choose between boppy and breast friend I like breast friend. Truthfully though after the first few days I barely used a nursing pillow, I just held my babies in my arms, it was more convenient for me.
  • I also never got used to a nursing pillow. I used a regular couch pillow or nothing at all.
  • I had a boppy but never used it for nursing. I did like laying baby in it during naps though, my babies liked napping all snuggled inside it. I got rid of it after my second and won't be getting a nursing pillow this time around.
  • I used my boppy a little, but what I mostly used were the small couch pillows or a firm bed pillow.
  • I used a boppy at first and really struggled with BFing. I went in to see a LC and she had me use the MBF in her office. It instantly helped me correct my hold and supported my back, which put LO in a better position and improved her latch. It wasn't until LO was bigger and we had BFing down that we could just use a boppy or couch pillow.
  • Just a regular pillow or nothing at all
  • My Breast Friend. I am larger busted and I found the Boppy didn't work for me. MBF made nursing so much easier for both of us and supported G well.
  • My breast friend offers a ton more support especially if you have larger breasts. The boppy was a waste for breastfeeding but cool to prop the baby up etc. I have both but much prefered MBF
  • My breast friend was better the first couple weeks but after that I prefered the nippy, plus it has so many other uses as time goes on
  • I used MBF with my DD but definitely needed it at the beginning because my arms were exhausted and sore from an intense labour. I will be using it again this time!
  • I agree with most PP that honestly a nursing pillow isn't a necessity. I loved my Boppy and used it ALL. THE. TIME. But honestly I could have made do with a couch pillow. For me, I still liked the act of cuddling DD in my arms while she nursed, so it didn't really matter what was under her- it was just there to keep my arms from getting tired. But the Boppy was nice for later on working with propping/sitting etc. I guess my two cents is you really can't go wrong no matter what you choose, so get whatever you feel!
  • I was given born as hand me downs and never used any for nursing. Later I used the boppy for propping up little one. However, I occasionally babysit a friend's baby and like to use the boppy when giving him a bottle.
  • I used the Boppy and loved it. There were some times that I tried nursing without it and I just felt so hunched over and my arms and back just killed me. Regular couch pillows just weren't thick enough to support me. I do have a longer torso though, so I'm guessing the people who prefer to go without a nursing pillow have shorter torsos. I also loved the Boppy for sitting DS in there and for tummy time. DH even used it sometimes when he would hold DS for long periods of time.
  • Another big (and may I say droopy) boobed woman here. Didn't like the boppy. Did much better for positioning with MBF. Always used it when I was at home and took it on road trips.
  • Thanks guys, this is so helpful. I am a 34J, so definitely sounds like the Boppy is not for me!

  • I was wondering the exact same thing, thanks for the comments!  I know this may be a bit of a personal question, but as so many are saying that Boppy may not be great for large breasted women, how big is big?  I was a 38C before I got pregnant and am now a 40D.  Is this large enough that Boppy may not work well for me?  Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just don't know where the cut off is :)
  • I'm waiting to see what my boobs are like once LO is here, I'll see what the LC in the hospital recommends before I buy anything.
  • Loved the Boopy 4 years ago and I can't wait to use it again!!!
  • Anyone actually use both (boppy and MBF) and have a strong preference?
