Being induced..... Very nervous any advice?

hi ladies

I am a FTM 38 weeks +5 , sue to GD I am booked in tomorrow evening at 8pm to be induced. I am really nervous about this as I would have preferred to go naturally.

The more research I do the more nervous I become ...... Inductions seem to take much longer because birth is being forced. I know nerves are natural but I am suprised by how scared I am of the process - what if I can't actually make it :-(

Does anyone have any experience of being induced that they could share so I have a better idea of what to expect..... Google is not my friend for these types of questions!!

Re: Being induced..... Very nervous any advice?

  • Well, honestly I hated it. The pitocin took forever to work. They had me pushing way too early and nothing was happening. I tried to go without drugs, but about 15 hours in I couldn't take it anymore, and got the drugs. Then they wore off and had to give me another dose. Still couldn't get her out on my own, and my doc had to reach into me and pull out my kid! I mean, that could have just been because my canal is short or whatever, but holy pain Batman! I blacked out at the end. Total time was about 22 hours. Don't mean to scare you, that was just my experience. I would take the C every time, even though both labor and C scare the poop out of me. You just gotta put it behind you and do it.

  • I've been induced 3 times (and gone into labor naturally once). It sucks, but then it's over and you have a baby and forget how much it sucked.
  • I was just talking to one of my friends and she was induced early due to her baby being huge. Start to finish for her it took 12 hours. The first 6 she didn't feel a thing, the last 6 were a bit intense. The only thing she said was she wished she'd gotten an epidural sometime during those last 6 hours. She honestly didn't have that rough a time other than pain at the end when she was tired so her advice was to get the epidural when you start to feel worn out.
  • Stay as active as they will let you. Don't be afraid to get an epidural, as you also need rest! Make sure you are included in all decisions they make about your birth.
  • I was induced with my first. Just sleep and rest as much as you can when you have cervidil. You'll need all your energy for later on.
  • I asked to be induced with my second and third baby due to their size (big babies). But I was already past my due date with both. I actually had awesome experiences. I had no epidural/pain medication. I was only in labor for 2 hours with each baby. When it came time to push I knew and bam my babies were there within that minute. Everyone has differences experiences. Just breathe and take everything as it comes.
  • I was induced with my first because he was 10 days late and I had made no progress on my own. I didn't think the experience was bad at all. I went in the night before for cervadil (since I was 0% effaced) and then started pitocin the next morning around 6:30. I didn't sleep much at all because it makes you crampy, but it wasn't awful. I got an epidural around 10:30 and then it was a waiting game. I got some much needed rest and started pushing around 3 pm. He was born at 5! Good luck. It's different for everyone, but you CAN have a positive birth experience!

  • I would suggest you eat something with complex carbs and protein. You may not be able to eat and it could take a while. Go with a positive attitude and focus on the payoff at the end. Be open to changes in your birth plan and bring stuff to do while you wait. I have been induced twice. My first took 30 hours and my second took 12. My first was horrible and inwas exhausted and had to lay there the whole town because of all the monitors but the second wasn't bad. Good luck and congrats on getting to meet your LO!
  • SLEEP! I was induced with my daughter at 6am and I did not sleep that night before. They broke my water late morning/early afternoon then contractions kicked a few hours later. I got my epi about 8pm didn't sleep at all [nurse had me rollover every 30mins so sleep wasn't happening]. I felt the urge to push at 5:30am and she was born at 6am. I would also suggest making sure you eat something that will give you energy. I only ate a fruit tray for breakfast when I got to the hospital. I think if I would've had something more protein filled I might have labored longer before getting the epi.
  • Thank you for all taking the time to share stories and advice, I disnt think about eating so that's definitely on the priority list :-)

I wish I could go naturally and not force the contractions but needs must! Thanks again and I will keep you posted xx
