1st Trimester

Severe Nausea

Tomorrow I'll be week 8. Of course we are so excited about this little baby and that aspect helps keep me grounded when everything else I do or eat makes me debilitatingly nauseous or throw up. A couple of questions:
1. Does "morning" sickness start of mildly bad and then build up to a "climax" time and then taper off again, or does that appear to just be me? I've been sick for 19 days now and each day gets a little worse.
2. Is drinking milk a bad idea for nausea? I have drank it more the last week because it sounds good to me but I have felt worse the last week as well.
Thanks for your help and suggestions to this first time, lousy feeling, but oh-so-excited mama to be!!

Re: Severe Nausea

  • My MS is the same way...it builds, then I puke, then it subsides, then it comes back in the evening. It's been building faster each day this week.

Drinking milk is fine - if it sounds good, drink it.

You could try taking some Unisom (the Doxylamine type), which helps with MS.

  • My Dr. recommended taking up to 150 mg a day (50 mg at a time) of B6 to help with morning sickness. It's helped me quite a bit - I still feel crummy but am at least functional.
  • Same boat... I did go to CVS and get the mama sea bands for MS. That has helped me so much. Hang in there. I feel your pain and I have noticed that milk is delicious but makes me feel worst too.
  • I have MS pretty much all day, but it does have peaks throughout the day.  Right after I get to work, which I swear is because the roads are so bad around here.  I get car sick, even if I drive.  And then the MS gets worse again around 3:30.

I've been wearing my Mama Bands constantly.  At first they seemed to help take the edge off, but now I think I'm sort of immune.

I suck on hard candy all day, which is temporary relief.  I eat all day, even if I have to force myself.  I make sure to eat some sort of protein whenever I snack.  Again, this is all just temporary and relieves the MS so I can function for 20- 30 minutes or so.

I work at an university and I'm so worried I'm going to puke on a student.  Haha.  This MS is wearing me down!  I can deal with being tired, but feeling like I have a stomach bug every day is rough.  I never puke.  Maybe if I did some, I would feel better.  Not sure.
  • I had cereal and milk the other day and I started to feel queasy right after. Foods that I thought I could eat have now made me throw up. I don't think my sea bands are working that much anymore either. I don't know if I've become tolerant of the sea bands or if it's all psychological !! After I puke tho, I do feel some relief. Until I need to puke again that is... Then nausea, then puke, then relief, rinse and repeat lol reaaalllyyyyy hoping this goes away after 1st trimester. I'm 7w5d btw
  • Hi there. I'm just lurking here from 3rd trimester board. I had severe nausea and vomiting starting from week 6 that didn't stop until week 20. What I did notice was whatever I thought sounded good at the time, would usually make me feel better. If milk sounds appetizing go for it. I also took Diclegis as I ended up in the hospital for dehydration a couple times and I couldn't risk continuing to vomit that much and risk losing my baby. The medication was a miracle. I was still extremely nauseous pretty much 24/7 but it kept my vomiting down from 10x a day to maybe 3. I hope this helps and I promise it gets better! I'm 29 weeks now and let me tell you, the nausea was bad but 3rd trimester is very uncomfortable. Keep chuggin!
  • My MS comes in waves. I have found that if I set my alarm for 1/2 hr before I need to be up and eat something then lay back down for a 1/2 hr it seems to help me get going in the morning. I also take Unisom and B6 per my Dr recommendation. I haven't vomited, but I feel nausea most of the day. This was the same with my 1st pregnancy and lasted till about week 14 and then it was totally gone. Do whatever works to get thru for now and be prepared for things to change on you every few days (I was crazy about grapes for a week and now can't stomache them but apples work).
  • My "morning" sickness actually tends to be far worse in the afternoon. I usually feel fine when I wake up, but I have to eat something within 20 min of being awake or I get sick. I started getting sick around week 6.5/7, I am almost 13 and......still sick.....although it is better. But every day by about 3:30 or 4, I start to feel really gross- almost like I ate a giant meal.

At first, I was nauseous literally all the time. To curb that, I snacked a lot. I loved the Boom Chicka Pop kettle corn- sweet, salty, crunchy but not absolutely horrible for you. I also ate my fair share of cheese quesadillas. If milk calms your stomach, then I say go for it. (although the idea is so gross to me!!)

Now, I feel *mostly* ok but the sickness comes and goes and is often triggered by something (now my husband has to take care of our composting bin because it never fails that I puke if I ever try and empty it). And I can't go too long without a meal. I am hoping it goes away for good.....soon.....because it is really affecting the rest of my life- I am tired all the time and constantly feel sick. I know H understands, and he has been great, but I would really like (for the sake of our relationship!) to feel human again.
  • I had ms with my last that was all day every day from the time I got up till the time I got up the next day. Didn't matter what I ate. I use ks the preggie pop candy which was a life saver! I am now 6.2 weeks with this one and the ms started yesterday so I will be running out to get more preggie pops today! Good luck to you momma!
  • Ugh. When will it end? @ 8 weeks. Nausea all day, all night. Brushing my teeth makes me vomit, so I'm having to brush really quick with no toothpaste. Something that makes the tummy happy one day triggers gas and nausea the next.
  • I have it all day too. I am 10 weeks today and I am just praying for relief soon. I am so excited for the baby, but it sure is hard to embrace the moment when you feel crummy all day. I bought the mama sea bands, those help alot, diclegis is a life savor as well. I am a milk lover and cannot drink it now, makes my belly worst. I think dairy is what gets the MS going to be honest. Good luck ladies..it will end soon (that's what I keep telling myself) ;)
