Waxing more painful?

Hey there, I usually get a Brazilian every few months but have been putting it off since I remember waxing being super painful during my last pregnancy. I think I'm going to go for it, but was wondering if anyone else has had increased skin sensitivity and pain when waxing.

PS I can't find the search function everyone is always going on about, so I am deeply sorry if this post is redundant and upsets anyone.

Re: Waxing more painful?

  • Yup but I starting going to a new place that uses better wax but it still hurts like the dickens.

  • You have a lot more blood flowing down there. It's going to be a lot more sensitive for a while. If you've ever gotten waxed around your period... Same pain. Just bite the bullet and go lol
  • I go monthly for a Brazillian wax. I find that if I take a few months off then go, it hurts way more! When I keep up with it and go each month I don't find it really that painful at all. I definitely recommend continuing to go, but maybe make it more often so it will hurt less!
  • Thanks guys. I was shaving but can't really reach anymore! Someone told me sugaring was more gentle...
  • Generally if you go somewhere that uses hard wax (no strips) it's less painful. European Wax Center uses hard wax if they have a branch near you. I've become a little more sensitive, but like someone already said: if you go more frequently it hurts less. I go every four weeks.

  • I don't go for bikini waxes regularly but have been while pregnant and it does hurt more. I tried the hard wax as well.
  • Sugaring hurts way more than hard wax, but IMO it lasts longer and I don't get ingrown hairs.
  • At first I didn't notice that it hurt much more but I switched to getting a regular bikini wax instead of my usual Brazillian just to give myself a break. Last time I went I could barely take the regular bikini wax! I decided that I'll just put the waxing on hold until the end of the pregnancy. But I'll probably end up going again once I'm too big to manage things myself :))
  • I'm an Esthetician and at the spa I worked at my pregnant clients would frequently have more sensitivity and it took a bit longer time to complete the service

I've only gotten a Brazilian wax once, a week before my wedding a few years ago. It hurt like the devil! I was barely able to make it through and couldn't shave the strays for several days because the skin was swollen and sore. I do remember asking the lady if anyone ever stopped before they were finished, and she said that only 2 ladies had to stop and both were pregnant. For some reason I've always remembered that. I wanted to get laser hair removal this year, but I didn't get around to it in time before getting ptegnant and from what I've read, you can't have it done while pregnant. So I don't know what I'll do when I can't see to shave anymore. Probably shave blind and hope for the best! Lol!

I heard that the more you get waxed, the less it hurts. But after that one time, I decided the pain was not worth the money I spent, the several days of "recovery" for my skin, and hair started growing back after 2 weeks. Not my cup of tea, I have no idea how women do it on a regular basis!
