He's been two days without my milk. He did poop yesterday but none today. I'm use to him pooping sometimes 4 times a day. If he's getting constipated bc of the formula what can I give him.
Ive heard prune juice but wait to get some mommas with experience to respond before listening to me bc I havent had this issue, but a couple people have and I think they used prune juice and a couple other things.
Similac (any type) bound up my LO even though he was only getting a couple ounces a day.
Beyond that, we've had trouble with this and our first move, per the pediatrician, was diluted prune juice, one ounce of juice to one ounce of water. That worked for a couple weeks. Now he's on 2x a day 1tsp of milk of magnesia.
We have dealt with this issue since LO was born since he has been on diuretics which dry him out. We give him 5 ml of prune juice 3 x a day. Also we have suppositories that we have given him a few times if he is super uncomfortable, but the thermometer works sometimes. It's so hard to watch him struggle to get it out! Hopefully we can be done with this soon as he will come off the meds next month if all goes well at our appointment. I've also heard that miralax works. I would ask your dr what they recommend as well.
Since supplementing with formula, my LO has had increased belly troubles. We used gripe water last night for the first time and she seemed to do really well w it!
Was his poop hard? It's ok for formula fed babies to go a few days without pooping. My Lo goes about every 3 days. If the poop isn't hard it's not constipation.
If he pooped yesterday it is too early to tell if he is constipated. Some formula fed babies go days without a BM and it is normal. I would not do anything at this point in time except for wait and see. When I stopped breastfeeding it took 3 fulls days for his digestive track to process a new substance besides breastmilk. Definately run your concerns by the pediatrician before trying or doing anything.
Wait to see what the poop is like and ask your ped. It's dangerous when they're this young to give them anything other than formula or breastmilk if you don't know what you're doing. My baby does get constipated and after discussing it with her doctor she gets 1 oz of warm water twice per day. If three days pass and she still has hard poop, I'm supposed to give her the one oz of water with Karo syrup to make it look like Coke. But I would never do this without my pediatrician's say.
My DD had this problem we started out with Prune Juice, then Karo syrup and by 10months they suggested miralax. I was tired of giving her medicine and finally went to a gastro Dr, they found she had a milk protein allergy the whole time!
Just something to keep in mind, while on the journey.
It's only constipation if the poop is formed/hard... they can go days without pooping and that's ok. If it is constipation, we have had luck with prune juice. We did 1/4 oz power 4 oz bottle when LO was constipated.
