Babies on the Brain is leading to New Car on the brain

Is anyone else letting their TTC or future TTC status affecting current purchases? I'm now looking at my beloved little two door car thinking, this will just not do! I'm also avoiding the purchase of jeans and pants that may or may not fit in a few months. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but I can't help it :)

I'm determined to keep my Honda Fit for 1-2 kids, especially since it will be paid off by the time a LO arrives, but a two-door might give me pause, too. I know people do it, but it seems difficult with car seats. Clothes I don't worry about, but I'm not a huge shopper anyway.

Yep! We actually looked at SUVs this weekend, but in the end I decided I really don't need a new car. I've only had mine for 3 years and I absolutely love it. It's worked just fine for my daughter so I figured I'll wait until I feel like we actually need it.

I got a new car back in 2013, I wanted an SUV (all wheel drive) since I moved away from Florida. I was only engaged but thinking of a family car was definitely a big thing for me. I had my 4 door car for 9 years so I was like well if I can keep my next car for 9 years, I will want a family within that time frame so I ended up with an SUV. Now I am expecting and I have an SUV and I'm already thinking when I hopefully have 3 kids if I can to get an larger SUV (3 rows). I have a medium sized right now.

It is not the craziest thing to be thinking about it for when you do make those purchases.

It's definitely not crazy thinking about major purchases such as cars in that way. And I can't judge on the clothes thing, I did the same thing before my last pregnancy, decided I was being silly and went on a shopping spree and was pregnant 2 days later lol. At least all that clothes felt new the year after!

Nope! I'm going to keep driving my 2001 Honda Accord until either it dies or we have our student loans paid off and enough cash saved for something new.

We're keeping our compact sedans even if we have kids. Vans and SUVs always seemed too big when I was growing up and too easy to just store junk.

We're really far out, but we're looking for a new car for DH and we've discussed doing it now so we aren't making any major purchases the year we have a baby and getting a larger car for a family.  Totally not weird to think ahead!

Definitely been thinking this way a lot lately, with many things...especially big/long term items like cars! Our basement renovation was kicked off by wanting a room downstairs for guests once baby comes and our current guest room becomes a nursery! We live far from family so an extra room is a must!

I'm all about trading my Civic in. I've been wanting an SUV for a while now but obviously being that we aren't pregnant yet or close to trying, I have no other reason other than want, want, want. DH has put his foot down for now. Instead of me using the "but we're already making a car payment anyway!" excuse, he paid my car off so now I'm stuck a little while longer. LOL. Boo. Once we get pregnant, or at least once we pay DH's truck off, it's new SUV time for suuure.

I've been eying an SUV for some time. DH keeps saying let's get one but he says it very playful/joking like. We are doing some work around the house now I'm just afraid now is not the time. We have our mortgage and my student loan payments every month and I really don't want another payment right now. But on the other hand my car is old and we are tired of asking his parents to haul big things for us when we purchase things for the house. I'm torn. We've been TTC for 7 months now. DH also says he wants a SUV before we have a kid because of the expense of having a kid.

Yup....I bought my current SUV (Q5) when I was pregnant with dd#1. Then dd#2 came, but we still fit. Now that we have baby #3 on the brain, we know that we'd have to get a new car before he/she arrives. We've begun looking.

    We have a Fit too!

I have a Hyundai Santa Fe so that's big enough for now. I drive 65 miles each way to work and we considered getting me a small car for better gas mileage, but this car is paid off so I'm sticking with it!... DH needed a new vehicle earlier this year and wanted a pickup so we agreed that he had to have the extended crew cab because that is the only size that will properly fit a rear-facing car seat and we knew we would be having kids within a year or two from the purchase!  Also, the bed holds his large amount of gear so that's nice :)

When we were TTC #2, my 10 year old car with more than 100,000 miles started smoking on the interstate, and the heater stopped working (in January in Chicago). We obviously needed to replace it, and we did research on best family sedans, looking particularly at car seat installation. Before that, I had a compact sedan. Next car will be a minivan (even if we don't have a second), so we can remove seats when transporting big items.

A week before finding out I was pregnant with our son, we bought a Cadillac CTS. It was nice, but not practical once baby was born. In January (4.5 years later) we upgraded to a Tahoe. I LOVE it. All of the room makes complete sense for the size family we hope to have. My husband mentioned eventually bumping up to the Suburban, but that's later on down the road for us.

I am absolutely this way, and it's driving my hubby crazy!

Currently we have a compact car and a motorcycle. I'd like to get the hubby an SUV because I'm madly in love with my Hyundai Accent. He's been looking at some smaller cars, but I'm thinking with the dog and any future children we will probably need more room soon. (At least I hope so!)
