How many oz bottles do other breastfed babies take at daycare?
my LO is 20 weeks and has been taking four 4 four oz bottles of breastmilk to daycare. We also have a 4oz formula bottle in case of late days.
He is at daycare from about 7:45-4:00. Lately he has gone through all 5 bottles and our DCP says he seems hungry. I'm worried he's being fed when he's just tired or in need of soothing. He is sleeping longer at night now and nursing more during the day and just started rice cereal. He's 48% for weight and has a good amount of diapers per day. I'm not worried about his intake really, but more worried about me trying to keep up with an amount of pumping if he doesn't need it.
Should we adjust bottle size To a bigger amount for one or two bottles, do more frequent smaller oz bottles or talk to DCP about really trying to wait at least two hours btwn feedings?
Re: Overfed at daycare?
My little guy eats 5 times a day: bf in the morning and before bed with me, and I send 3 bottles to day care: two seven ounces and one six ounce. Right now, he downs both 7 ounces and typically will only eat about 5 of the 6 ounce bottle (he's pretty good about stopping when he's done). It seems to be what he needs. Also, their ability to sleep through the night is directly relational to the amount their tummies can fill, so to take those 5 bottles and try putting them in 4, maybe even 3 bottles and asking your daycare to space the feedings out more may help on the sleep front, too. I work hard to keep up with him on pumping, but I believe it's worth it because I trust him to know what he needs.
